Stanford University have signed up top German prospect  Quirine Eijkenboom to enrol this coming August at the California college - where Tiger Woods and Mhairi McKay studied/golfed as students in years gone by.
A Junior Vagliano Trophy player for Europe in 2011 and a Junior Ryder Cup player for Europe last year, the Bavarian teenager, who will celebrate her 18th birthday on March 23, was headhunted by Stanford's Scottish assistant coach, Kathryn Imrie, when the British girls championship was played in foul weather at Tenby links, South Wales last August.
Eijkenboom, pictured at Tenby, who had a handicap of +3.7 at the time, reached the semi-finals before losing to the eventual title winner and world ranked No 5 female amateur, Georgia Hall (Remedy Oak).
Eijkenboom was last year's German girls champion and in 2011 won the German women's match-play title.
Said Anne Walker, the Scot who is Stanford's head women's golf coach:
"Quirine has travelled extensively in Europe and represented her home country, Germany, on multiple occasions. She is very familiar with team golf. I expect she will blossom even more within the team environment here at Stanford."
In Walker's first year at the helm, the Cardinal (nickname for Stanford University) posted a pair of top-three finishes to close out its fall schedule. The team, ranked 15th in the country, began its spring schedule at the weekend by winning the team and individual titles  at the Peg Barnard Invitational over Stanford's own course.
