LAUREN MIGHT MAKE IT TO THE GB AND I TEAM NEXT TIME ROUND IN 2013

EDITOR'S NOTE: Apologies to Lauren Taylor (pictured) and her parents for missing the following article on the Baylor University website last month. But, better later than never, it is worth catching up now with it.
The Baylor University women's golf coach has some very nice things to say about Lauren who was the youngest ever winner of the British women's open amateur championship at Royal Portrush in 2011 and, at this time last year, having won the BBC Young TV Sports Personality of the Year, looked a certainty to be chosen for the 2012 Curtis Cup match at Nairn..
However, an unfortunate chain of events, including a injury which meant she could not take part in the selection trial in March at Nairn, saw Lauren fail even to be named a reserve for the June match.
If her form in America keeps improving in the second half of the US college golf season, Lauren might well make it to the GB and I line-up for the Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe at Chantilly GC, near Paris next June.Best of luck, Lauren. You deserve it.

FROM THE BAYLOR UNIVERSITY WEBSITE

IRVING, Texas - Baylor freshman Lauren Taylor has been named October's Big 12 Conference Women's Golfer of the Month, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. Taylor became the first freshman in the conference to win the award since teammate Hayley Davis was honored in September 2011. A Rugby, England, native, Taylor shot five of six rounds at or below par during the month, and her only other round was 1-over-par. She recorded a 5-under-par 211 at the Alamo Invitational, posting the best score by any Baylor player this season.
"Lauren Taylor is a phenomenal player and competitor," head coach Jay Goble said. "It has been extremely fun for (assistant coach) Diana (Cantu) and I to watch her get more and more comfortable on the golf course. I'm very happy for Lauren and I truly believe this is only recognition of a great start to what is going to be great career here at Baylor."
Taylor turned in back-to-back top-5 finishes while carding a career-low 69 in the second round at the Alamo Invitational. She finished tied for fourth in the Tar Heel Invitational and second at the Alamo Invitational.
Taylor improved her scores the deeper she got into tournaments, finishing the fall season with a 74.00 stroke average in first rounds, 72.75 stroke average in second rounds and 71.00 stroke average in final rounds.
Baylor finished in second place in two of four tournaments during the fall schedule. The Lady Bears were never lower than sixth place after any round in any of the four tournaments they played. Baylor's spring schedule begins Feb. 4 when the Lady Bears travel to Coral Gables, Fla., for the Hurricane Invitational.
