UCLA women's golf coach Carrie Forsyth announced the signing today of three players to National Letters of Intent. The group is one of the strongest lists of players in the country.
Bronte Law (Manchester, England), Alison Lee (Valencia HS, Valencia, CA) and Yimeng (Yvonne) Zheng (St. Stephen's Episcopal School, Bradenton, FL) are expected to enroll and play golf for the Bruins in the Fall of 2013.
Both Law and Lee are among the Top 15 ranked amateur players in the world, and Zheng is an emerging talent with plenty of potential.
"We're extremely excited about this group of young women," said Forsyth, a member of the NGCA Hall of Fame. "All three players are quality people who bring talent, passion and diligence to our team. Bronte and Alison are among the best amateurs in the world, and Yvonne's ball-striking ability is reminiscent of Tiffany Joh."
Law, ranked 10th in the world by the Royal and Ancient, was a member of Great Britain and Ireland's victorious 2012 Curtis Cup team. She was 1-1-1 in matches in Nairn, Scotland. She also tied for 33rd at the 2012 Women's British Open and competed in the 2012 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, where she tied for 37th in stroke play and advanced to the Round of 32. She was also a member of GB&I's Jr. Ryder Cup Team.
Lee, ranked 12th internationally and second by the American Jr. Golf Assn., advanced to the finals of the U.S. Junior Girls Championship this summer. She is a five-time First-Team AJGA All-American who won twice in 2012: the PING Invitational last month and the ANNIKA Invitational.
She also place third at the 2012 Jr. PGA Championship and fourth at the Rolex Jr. Girls Championship. At the 2012 U.S. Women's Amateur, she tied for third in stroke play (139, -5).
Zheng has only been playing competitively for four years, but has improved her scores each season. A native of Beijing, China, she won the 2012 IMG Jr. Golf Tour at Victoria Hills and placed second at the AJGA Quad Cities Junior in June. She also recorded three other Top 10 results in 2012.
