MEGHAN MACLAREN SCORES SECOND US WIN IN THREE STARTS
MEGHAN MACLAREN (extreme right) WITH THE WINNING FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TEAM
Meghan MacLaren seems to be enjoying life in America as she has just scored victory no 2 out of 3 starts. The 35th
Pat Bradley Invitational took place last weekend on the Cypress Links
course (Par 72, 6261 yards) at Lakewood Ranch G and CC near Sarasota,
Florida. A field of 14 teams with a total of 75 college girls took part
in this annual event, which was hosted by the winning team, Florida
International University.
Pat Bradley was the first female golfer to
attend FIU in the 1970’s and certainly extends a strong legacy for
future FIU golfers to follow.
Meghan’s
score of 2 under 70 and 1 under 71 on the final 2 days made her the
most consistent performer in the field and gave her a 2 shot victory
over Daytona State’s So Young Hwang.
Meghan said “the greens were really
slick here and the wind featured a lot on the final day but I managed
to keep hitting greens in regulation and that helped me produce a steady
round”. FIU’s team score of 876 was the second lowest team total in the
history of the event and was 26 strokes ahead of the tournament runners
up, Cincinnati.
Another of the FIU Panthers to feature on Day 1 and 2
was Yorkshire’s Sophie Godley – Sophie opened with a 1 under 71 to be
in 2nd place and held onto her 2nd position with a 2nd day 74. Sophie finished on 8 over par to take 9th spot.
Meghan’s 2nd
victory comes only a couple of weeks after being named the Sun-Belt
Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month – and this accolade was awarded
due to her win in the Wolverine Invitational at Ann Arbour, Michigan and
a 3rd place finish level par score at the 6th
Johnie Imes Invitational in Missouri.
Next week sees the FIU Panthers
make their way to Hawaii (what a tough life) and the Rainbow Waihine
Invitational in Oahu.
