ABI LAKER AND ANNA CARLING IN TOP 20 FOR ARKANSAS STATE

FROM THE ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY WEBSITE
TULSA, Oklahoma- Led by another strong performance from freshman Abi Laker, the Arkansas State women's golf team shot a final-round 313 Tuesday at the ORU Shootout to finish the two-day tournament sixth out of 13 teams with a combined 942 shot on the Meadowbrook Country Club golf course.
England's Laker, who picked up her first career tournament championship last week at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, claimed fourth place to pick up her second top-five and third top-20 finish of the season.
She scored a combined 225, including a team-best 73 for the second 18 holes, to end the outing eight strokes behind medalist Shelby Hardy of Sam Houston State.
Laker ranked fifth in par-4 scoring among all players at the tournament and also made 38 pars that tied for the second most.
A-State, which was runner-up at its first two tournaments this year, moved up one place in the final standings today, finishing just four strokes behind fourth-place McNeese State and Southern Utah.
The Red Wolves final-round score matched their total for the opening 18 holes, and they posted a 316 in yesterday's afternoon round.
"I'm very happy for a great performance by our freshman, Abi," said ASU head coach M.J. Desbiens Shaw.  "She showed great consistency for three rounds.  As a team, we struggled to put four good scores together, but we will be coming home with some good things to work on and prepare for our home event in two weeks at Sage Meadows."
Joining Laker among the top-20 individual leaders was Anna Carling from Wales. She finished tied for 19th place with a combined 235.  The senior standout posted a final-round 76, her best score of the tournament, to climb 13 places in the final standings and pick up her second top-20 finish of the season.  Carling made five birdies, tying junior Courtney Manning for the most on the team.
Also competing for the Red Wolves, Jennifer Loiacano finished tied for 37th place with a 241, Courtney Manning tied for 43rd with a 242, Endsley Evans tied for 49th with a 243 and Libby Croom 67th with a 258.  After recording an 85 and 84 for the first and second rounds, respectively, Clara Tefteller withdrew from the tournament.  Both Evans and Croom competed as individuals.
A-State returns to action Oct. 15-16 when it hosts the Lady Red Wolf Classic at Sage Meadows Country Club in Jonesboro.
