WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL TEAM CHALLENGE AT SAN FRANCISCO
FROM JANE RHODES, The Nairn GC
During
the visit of Pat Cornett, the USA Curtis Cup Captain, to Nairn Golf Club in
December an invitation was extended to the ladies section to compete in the
Women’s International Team Challenge.
Pat is a member of the Olympic Club, San Francisco and the
invitation was given by herself and fellow club member Erika Corradi. The
Olympic Club established the tournament in 2010 to bring together, in friendly
competition, women’s golf teams from historic golf clubs.
There are six
founding clubs the Olympic Club, Fisher’s Island
NY, Southern Hills, Oklahoma,
Merion, Pennsylvania,
Brookline, Massachusetts
and Lahinch in Ireland.
This illustrious group of golf clubs made it their intention to expand their
numbers and this year membership has been extended to, and accepted by, Royal
Liverpool and the Nairn GC.
The
event this year will be held on 16th-18th October at Southern Hills
Country Club, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Nairn GC will be sending a team of
six ladies, two of which will play in the scratch section and four in the
handicap. This years team is Jane Rhodes (Capt), Nan Burtwell (Vice Cpt), Yvonne
Gunn, Gillian Jones, Alison Kerr and Eileen Manson.
It
is anticipated the event itself will be hosted by the Nairn Golf Club in 2016
or 2018.
