| | | | | | | | Curtis Cup stars Kelly Tidy and Amy Boulden will contest the English women’s
open mid-amateur championship when it is played at Wetherby Golf Club,
Yorkshire, from 5-8 July 2012. Kelly, the English amateur champion from Royal Birkdale, and
Amy, the Welsh champion, were members of the GB&I team which famously won
the 2012 Curtis Cup earlier this month, for the first time in 16 years.
Other high-profile names
in the field include Dorset’s Hayley Davis who is the current English girls’
champion and a past winner of the English amateur title. The Ferndown player has
just spent her first, successful year at university in the USA – and she’s
joined in the field by a host of other players who are on their summer break
from American studies. Defending champion Claire
Smith is one of seven Yorkshire players who have entered the event. Claire,
from Silsden, is joined by Yorkshire champion Ellie Robinson (Wilton), Helen
Barugh (Fulford), Alice Boothroyd (Rudding Park), Megan Garland (The Oaks),
Alison Knowles (Hickleton) and Rebecca Wood (Hallamshire). The open event, for
players aged 18 and over, has attracted a full field which includes three
players from Wales, one from Scotland and one from New Zealand.
All
competitors will play 36 holes strokeplay qualifying on Thursday, 5 July. The
top 32 players will qualify for the matchplay stages which start on the Friday,
6 July. The final will be played on the morning of Sunday, 8 July. Spectators
are welcome. For further information
