The "new kids on the block" - University of Highlands and Islands scored an upset win over Heriot Watt in the quarter-finals of the Scottish universities men's team golf championship over the Moray Old Course, Lossiemouth today.
The Highlanders won by 8 1/2-6 1/2, sharing the foursomes 2 1/2-2 1/2 and then taking a winning 6-4 lead in the singles.
In Thursday's semi-finals, UHI will play Aberdeen University who squeezed past Edinburgh University 8-7. The North-east squad got the decisive 1pt lead by taking the foursomes 3-2 and then sharing the singles 5-5.
St Andrews University annihilated Abertay Dundee 14-1 and now play Stirling University who had a bye into the last four.
Stiirling won the Scottish Universities women's team championship, contested by only two teams due to Easter being so late this year that most universities are still in term time and their students could not afford to be absent at Lossiemouth for the whole week.
Stirling won the title by beating St Andrews 2 1/2-1 1/2. Rebecca Wilson and Harriet Beasley won for Stirling and Jordana Graham got the half-point. Welsh international Gemma Bradbury gained St Andrews only win by beating Eilidh Mackay 2 and 1.
