Title-holder Sara Mathieson (Royal Musselburgh) and last year’s beaten finalist, Sammy Leslie (Westhill) qualified this evening in second and third places for the weekend’s match-play stages of the Aberdeenshire women’s county golf championship after a wettish day at Portlethen Golf Club.
Top seed, leading the 16 qualifiers with a three -over-par 76, is Donna Pocock (Murcar Links), pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, the 2008 county champion, who had birdies at the seventh and 16th in halves of 38.
Sara, married to Kings Acre Golf Centre staff professional Terry Mathieson and living in the Lothians, had 2s at the short fifth and seventh, in her 77 (37-40), while young Sammy birdied the second and fifth in compiling a 78 (37-41).
