BARASSIE BOYS 1-2 WITH 36 HOLES TO

PLAY AT MORTONHALL ON SUNDAY

 

Kilmarnock Barassie boys Steven McEwan and Robert McKnight lead the field at the halfway stage of the Scottish youths’ open amateur stroke-play golf championship at Mortonhall Golf Club, Edinburgh.

McEwan, winner last year of the Scottish Under-18 boys’ stroke-play title  and capped recently for Scotland youths against Ireland, added a two-under-par 70 to his opening round of 68 for a six-under-par tally of 138.

McEwan reached the turn in one under par with birdies at the fifth, seventh and eighth, dropping shots at the third and sixth. Coming home, he birdied the long 12^th and the par-4 14^th and dropped only one more shot, at the 15^th in coming home in 35 for a 70.

He leads by three shots overnight from clubmate Robert McKnight who has had scores of 70 and 71.

A total of 50 players with totals of 149 qualified for Sunday’s final two rounds.
