LGU NAME NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE

 LESLEY BURN SUCCEEDS ANDY SALMON

The Ladies’ Golf Union has announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive, Lesley Burn who will take up her position on 3rd July 2006 in St Andrews.

Lesley joins the LGU with over 15 years experience in the sports industry, most recently in a number of positions in the London Area.

She has a first-class business track record and brings with her a wealth of knowledge of business and the political arena. Her skills acquired from working in both the private and public sectors equip her with the essential experience to lead the LGU into a new era for women’s golf.

Lesley has many years’ experience with Sport England ultimately as Head of Regions and previously as the Regional Director of the East of England, a leadership and management role driving forward the policies and progammes of Sport England. These positions saw her liaising with national organisations such as Central and Regional Government Departments, Sports Councils, Equity Bodies and NGBs as well as with corporate partners and the media.

Other positions include being National Project Manager of the Barclaycard charity programme ‘Free Kicks’ and responsibility for a portfolio of National Projects for the English Sports Council.

Lesley is married with two sons and played a variety of sports to regional level. However nowadays she says sport is purely for fun, although it has a dominating influence on both her business and private life.

In being honoured to accept the position, Lesley said, “I am delighted to be joining the team in St Andrews and the Executive Council of the LGU, to play my part in continuing the historic route that has brought ladies’ golf to the present day.

“Golf is an amazing sport for all women and girls to play.  It offers not only competition but more importantly friendship, fun and a contribution to a healthy lifestyle”.

Pam Chugg, Chairman of the LGU said, “We are delighted to appoint Lesley as our Chief Executive and are confident that her skills and experience will help take the LGU forward in its role of advancing and safeguarding women’s golf in the changing environment of the modern world.”
