SCOTTISH SENIOR WOMEN'S MATCH-PLAY

TWO SCOTTISH SENIOR TITLES IN FOUR
DAYS FOR PAMELA WILLIAMSON

Baberton's Pamela Williamson won the first four holes - two of them with birdies - on her way to a 3 and 2 win over Moira Thomson (North Berwick) in the final of the Scottish senior women's amateur golf match-play championship at Grantown-on-Spey today.
So ended four days of golf almost dominated by Mrs Williamson who, earlier in the week, won the seniors' 36-hole stroke-play championship for a third time in seven years. That made her the top seed for the inaugural match-play championship contested by the 16 players with the lowest aggregates.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to win the first ever Scottish seniors' match-play championship and complete the title double over the four days," said Pamela, a great competitor who has also been Irish senior women's open champion in the past.
Mrs Williamson was conceded the first when her opponent went out of bounds and then she birdied the long second and the third before winning the fourth with a par.
Four down on the fifth tee, Mrs Thomson, the No 3 seed and a former Scottish girls' match-play champion, responded in gritty fashion to make a very good game of it. She played an excellent tee shot to set up a winning birdie 2 at the eighth and should have won the ninth where Pamela lost a ball. But Moira took two shots to get out of a bunker and Mrs Williamson escaped with a half in 6s.
Mrs Thomson did cut her deficit to one by winning the 10th and 12th but Pamela won the 13th and 14th with pars to restore a three-hole lead and halves in par at the 15th and 16th ended a contest enjoyed by the gallery.
Liz Campbell (Torwoodlee), who had been the No 2 qualifier for the match-play stages but was knocked out in the first round, gained a measure of consolation by winning the Second Flight. She beat Anne Brownie (Lothianburn) by 3 and 2 in the final.
Results:
Semi-finals - P Williamson bt R Anderson (Huntly) 7 and 6, M Thomson (North Berwick) beat J Gardner (Drumpellier 1 hole.
Final - Williamson bt Thomson 3 and 2.
Second Flight
Semi-finals - A Brownlie (Lothianburn) w.o. F Neish (Murcar) scr, E Campbell (Torwoodlee) bt L Terry (Cruden Bay) 2 and 1.
Final - Campbell bt Brownlie 3 and 2.
