Bude and North Cornwall Ladies

In 2017 Bude & North Cornwall Ladies were the winners National Golf Club Title

Bude and North Cornwall ladies enjoyed a 4 Day trip to the Annodata UK Golf Club Classic Grand Final at the Montecastillo Golf Resort in Jerez, Spain. 20th – 24th November 2017
Four Ladies teams qualified through tough county and regional matches before making it to the Grand Final – Bude, Cranleigh, Kibworth & Bolton Old Links completed the line-up.
It was a glorious 4 days basking in the sunshine with temperatures reaching 24Degrees. The ladies had a practise day on Day 1 to get themselves familiar with the testing Montecastillo Golf Course, which hosted the Volvo Masters for 5 consecutive years.
It was Semi-Finals day on Wednesday 22nd November and the line-up was as follows:
SF1 - Cranleigh Golf & CC V Bude & North Cornwall
SF2 – Kibworth GC V Bolton Old Links
Both Ladies semi-finals were closing with Bolton Old Links taking a narrow win over Kibworth 3-2. The other Semi-final saw Bude beat Cranleigh 3.5 to 1.5 to setup a Grand Final pairing of Bude v Bolton Old Links.

3rd Place playoff
The match was contested alongside the Final on the 23rd November
Kibworth V Cranleigh was a very close match and credit to both teams for their determination to take the 3rd place. Kibworth took the match 3-2 with some great golf played by both teams.
Kibworth – Joy Hall, Corrine Boyd, Wendy Williams, Julia Dunkley, Sue Barkes
Cranleigh – Non-Playing Captin(Mo Palmer) Kim Rogers, Carrie Ferrier, Kim South, Bridget Howlands & Heather Kitson

Grand Final
Tensions were high for the Ladies Grand Final on the 23rd November but both teams had very experience ladies in their teams.
Match 1 between Hana Dabrowski (Bude) & Marie Miller(Bolton) was nip and tuck all the way. Marie took an early lead and was 2 up thru 12, by the time the match got to 15 Hana had gone 1 up. By the time they got to 17 the match was all square. Both hit good drives off the 18th and split the fairway. Marie took the 18th with a well worked chip and putt for par while unfortunately Hana made bogey so Bolton won Match 1 by the narrowest of margins 1 up.
Match 3 between Chris Simmons(Bude) & SallyAnn Attwood(Bolton) was also a close match but Chris seemed to be in control for most of the match, she was 2 up through 12 and maintained that score throughout to secure a 2&1 victory for Bude.
Match 4 between Jean Reed(Bude) & Karen Sawyer(Bolton) was a very close match and they were all square after 12 holes. A very determined Karen stuck to her guns and played some great golf in the closing hole to win 2&1.
Match 5 between the 2 Captain’s Collette Burgess(Bude) & Carol Helme(Bolton) was a one-sided affair with the small but mighty Collette taking an early lead and was 6up through 12. Collette, a former county squash champion, had her eye firmly fixed on taking the title that has eluded them in previous years and she ran out a 6&5 winner in her match.

That left us with Match 2 which proved to be the crucial match with things standing at 2 matches apiece. Match 2 was between Kay Dinsdale(Bude) & Liz Taylor(Bolton). Both ladies played superb golf and under severe pressure they battled all the way. Liz took an early lead and was 1 up through 12. She maintained her lead through 15 and it looked like it could be Bolton Old Links to take the title but Kay had different ideas. She battled strongly and was all square by the time they got to the 18th tee. Nerves were playing a part and the strain was showing on both ladies. It came down to the wire, both ladies left themselves tricky 5 & 6 Footers. It was Liz to put first and her putt went agonisingly past the hole and missed on the left. That left Kay with the most important putt of her life to take the Title of National Club Champions back to Bude. She composed herself, looked at the putt and stroke her putt with composure and it went in the centre of the hole. Kay took the match 1 Up.
Jubliant scenes from all the team from Bude and what a gripping Grand Final. Well done to all the teams that took part and huge congratulations to Bude & North Cornwall – Annodata UK Golf Club Champions for 2017.
