MHAIRI HALL WINS STIRLING AND CLACKMANNAN COUNTY TITLE FOR FIRST TIME

Mhairi Hall - 2017 Stirling and Clackmannan County Champion

Mhairi Hall (Bathgate) beat Linda Allan (Glenbervie) by one hole in an exciting final of the Stirling and Clackmannan women's county golf championship at West Lothian Golf Club this evening (Friday).
It looked long odds against Hall winning the title for the first time when she was four down after six holes. But she had halved the deficit by the turn and squared the contest by the 17th.
Hall then won the 18th to cap a fighting comeback to become county champion for the first time,  17 years after she won the junior girls county title. Mhairi, coujnty captain in 2012-2013, was beaten in the 2013 final.
For Linda Allan it was a third defeat in the final after winning the title as Linda Robertson in 2006. She lost the finals of 2008, 2010 and now 2017.

Duke WGOLF: Leona Maguire Selected CoSIDA Academic All-District III

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University junior Leona Maguire has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District III Women's At-Large Team, which was announced this week by the organization.
One of 11 female student-athletes selected to the NCAA Division I All-District III team, Maguire was joined by fellow Blue Devil Robin Blazing of the field hockey squad.  Maguire and Blazing will now move on to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America.
Maguire, a native of Cavan, Ireland, was recently named the 2017 ACC Player of the Year and is coming off a tied for sixth place finish at the NCAA Regional Championship in Albuquerque, N.M.  In April, Maguire claimed her second ACC Championship with a six-under-par, 210, while also helping lead Duke to its 20th team championship.
A two-time All-America and 2015 National Player of the Year, Maguire is currently having one of the best seasons in Duke and NCAA history collecting a 70.0 stroke average to go along with three victories and nine top 10 finishes.  Her 70.0 stroke average is currently one of the lowest in NCAA history and would be a new ACC record if the season ended today.  Maguire is currently the No. 1 ranked golfer in Golfweek Individual rankings and in the World Amateur rankings.
Maguire is a psychology major and has been named a Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar each of her first two years.  She is a two-time All-ACC Academic Team and ACC Honor Roll selection.
The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Maguire helped the Blue Devils to a second place finish at the NCAA Regionals and advanced to the NCAA Championship, which will take place May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farm in Sugar Grove, Ill.

PRESS RELEASE - Route 66 for Dunne at Co. Louth - Irish Women's Open Stroke Play

12 May 2017

Maria Dunne (Skerries) birdied the tough 433 yard par 4 first hole at Baltray by hitting a rescue wood to 3 feet to get her 2017 Irish Women's Open Stroke Play underway. Following up with no less than 9 more birdies and one blemish on the 8th meant she would sign for a 9 under par 66. "I felt really good this morning, this is a course I love and I actually won my first event here at the Leinster Women's Championship in 2002, every time I come back I just enjoy it. Did I think I would come out here today and have 10 birdies and a bogey, probably not! I am delighted with my score today!"

The Irish Women's Open Stroke Play Championship will be held at Co. Louth for the next 5 years, this year has honoured two legends of the game in Clarrie Reddan and Philomena Garvey so it was very fitting that Maria had Clarrie's son Barry, caddying for her. "I've known Barry for a long time now, he's a member here, he's a good man to have on the bag, he kept me relaxed and we just enjoyed it!" Barry, a golfing legend in his own right, won the West, East and South of Ireland, was an Irish International and is a devout Co. Louth member. Clarrie Reddan and Philomena Garvey dominated in their amateur careers, and although there was no Irish Open Stroke Play at the time, they boast 16 Irish Close Championships and 8 GB&I Curtis Cup team appearances between them.

Despite Dunne's superb score, she will take just a one shot lead into round 2 as playing partner Gemma Clews (England) signed for a 67. "We kind of bounced off each other, following each other into the hole. On 15, we were pretty much level, Gemma putted first and rolled in a birdie putt and then I followed her in just as easy, it was plain sailing today," commented Maria after signing her card. Clews wasn't the only English woman on form today, teammates Sophie Lamb and Lianna Bailey, both finishing 4 under for their rounds, are in prime position to chase the lead on day 2.

On a day where level par would leave you just outside the top 20, there was some stunning golf to be viewed. The German pair of Carolin Kaufmann and Ava Bergner carded 12 birdies between them, while Lucy Simpson had 8 birdies and signed for a 3 under 72. With 10 Irish under par and a number more close behind, there will be no shortage of players to support over the weekend.

ST RULE TROPHY DRAW

French conspicuous by their absence at this  year's St Rule Trophy tournament
France dominated last year's St Rule Trophy 54 hole open tournament at St Andrews, filling the first two places individually, notably with the youngest ever winner, 15-year-old Pauline Roussin-Blanchard, and winning the team title as well.
This year's event (June 3 and 4) has only one French entry - Manon Molle who is No 439 in the women's world amateur rankings.
So why the big change this year?
St Rule Club secretary Neil Doctor believes that this year's St Rule Trophy dates clash with a big domestic tournament in France which means all the French stars will be staying at home to play in that.

The main overseas contingent will be the six-strong touring Australian party
There is no shortage of stars from the British and Irish women's ranks with the in-form Gemma Clews (Delamere Forest) leading the challenge from south of the Border, backed up by players of the calibre of Hollie Muse (West Lancashire), Rochelle Morris (Woodsome Hall) and India Clyburn (Woodhall Spa).

Leading Scots in the field include Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm), Shannon McWilliam (Aboyne) and Chloe Goadby (St Regulus Ladies).
Briggs tied for third place last year with Lauren Whyte (St Regulus Ladies) who has not entered this year, presumably due to USA college commitments. Same must apply to Jess Meek (Carnoustie Ladies) who tied for fifth place last year with Gemma Batty (Moffat) but is not an entrant this year.

First two rounds are played over the St Andrews New Course on Sunday with a fresh draw, leaders out last, for the third and final round on the Old Course on the Sunday.

SYMETRA TOUR SELF REGIONAL HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION WOMEN'S HEALTH CLASSIC

Allie White

GREENWOOD, South Carolina, May 11, 2017 -

Allie White (Lancaster, Ohio) hasn't played a tournament round since the 2016 Decatur-Forsyth Classic in August, but it didn't look that way on the course Thursday at The Links at Stoney Point. She made five birdies in her season debut and carded a 4-under, 68 to share the first-round lead with Celine Boutier (Montrouge, France) and Augusta James (Bath, Ontario) at the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women's Health Classic.
Allison Emrey (Charlotte, North Carolina), Kim Welch (Sacramento, Calif.) and Anne-Catherine Tanguay (Quebec, Canada) posted 3-under, 69's to share third place. There are 18 players under-par after day one.

White, who became the graduate assistant women's golf coach at Ohio University in 2016, even surprised herself with the low number in her return to Tour golf.
"I wasn't thinking too hard because I was thinking a 75 would be pretty good so it was lower than expected," explained White. "I knew I had it (68) in me, you just don't know when it is going to come out so I'm glad it did today."
White's putter was red hot as she needed just 26 putts.
White said she hasn't had a ton of opportunities to practice during the school year or the golf season. She only occasionally "chips around" with the players.
"I practiced a lot last week, it was kind of like I was cramming for a test," explained 27-year-old White. "I had papers to write and I coached six tournaments this spring. I would chip around, but it just wasn't Symetra (Tour) intense practice. Last year, I missed the first four cuts coming out of coaching so it was nice to get off to a good start this time around."
White, who started playing full-time on the Symetra Tour in 2013, decided to pursue her masters in journalism and jump start her coaching career in 2016. She has one more year left before she gets her masters.
"The girls are super fun and the head coach (Kelly Ovington) is awesome," said White about her coaching job. "We finished third in our conference, which Kent State usually wins so hopefully we will be able to knock them off one day.  There are people from all over the world in my graduate program so that is cool. We write a lot of papers and read a lot of stuff."

Boutier also made five birdies and just one bogey. She played her outward nine in 33 with birdies on her first and fourth holes of the day.
"I played very good today, I was driving it on the fairway and my putting was pretty good too, I made some birdies when I had the opportunities," said Boutier, who was the 2013-14 WGCA National Player of the Year while at Duke. "My whole game feels pretty good."
Boutier was most proud that she put her best foot forward early in the tournament. Her low round of the season is a 67 two weeks ago at the Symetra Classic, but it came on the final day when she wasn't truly in contention.
"I felt like my game was there and I could shoot low, but I wasn't making the birdies in the first round so I'm really happy that I'm in this position this week," explained Boutier, who has two top 10 finishes in her first year on Tour. "Hopefully I can keep it up for the next couple of rounds."
Boutier said she is enjoying her first year on the Symetra Tour after a tremendous career at Duke. She won four times and totaled 13 top 10 finishes.
"It (Symetra Tour) has been a very good experience so far as I like to travel," said Boutier. "I really like the atmosphere on Tour and the courses we play are great."
Meanwhile, James chipped in for eagle on the sixth hole and also made birdie on eight before ending with a par on nine.
"I was around the hole all day from 50 yards and in and chipped in from the landing spot at 38 yards," explained James. "It was obviously big in the end number."
James' 68 is her lowest round of the season and her first sub-par round since March 30 at the Gateway Classic at Longbow Golf Club.
"I'm very happy, it was great to put together a good round even with the wind picking up in some spots," said James, who has 12 career top 10 finishes since 2015 on the Symetra Tour. "There wasn't a whole lot that went wrong today."
James had help prepping for the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women's Health Classic as Team Canada's Head Women's Coach Tristan Mullally was in town early in the week.
"Tristan is really helpful in general and it is very helpful to have him during a tournament week," said James. "His expertise takes us all to this level so we have him to thank."
Mullally spent time with James, Anne-Catherine Tanguay and Brittany Marchand.
"During a tournament week, we do a lot of maintenance and work on things we personally want to work on," said James. "He doesn't like to turn it into a training camp, it's strictly tournament prep. Other weeks are more technical."
James won the 2015 Chico's Patty Berg Memorial. She finished 13th on the Volvik Race for the Card money list in 2015 and 12th in 2016.

Aberdeen-born former Curtis Cup player Gemma Dryburgh and England's Charlotte Thomas both had 75s and are T61.
Two more English players are further down the list. Hannah Burkek is T75 with a 76 and Ellie Givens T100 with a 77.
There are 144 players in the field.

Four Blue Devils Named All-ACC; Maguire Earns Player of the Year
May 11, 2017
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the 2017 All-ACC Women's Golf Team and individual awards Thursday with four Duke University Blue Devils earning honours, while junior Leona Maguire was named ACC Player of the Year for the second time in her career, following a vote of the 12 league's head coaches.
Duke, which captured its 20th ACC Championship in April and is coming off a second place finish at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional, featured senior Sandy Choi, junior Gurbani Singh, sophomore Virginia Elena Carta and Maguire on the All-ACC team.  The Blue Devils and Florida State each led the league with four selections on the 15-member squad.
A native of Cavan, Ireland, Maguire became this sixth Blue Devil to earn multiple ACC Player of the Year honors as she also won the award as a freshman in 2014-15.  She joined the company of Lindy Duncan, Amanda Blumenherst, Beth Bauer and Jenny Chuasiriporn.
Maguire is currently having one of the best seasons in Duke and NCAA history sporting a 70.0 stroke average to go along with three victories and nine top 10 finishes.  Her 70.0 stroke average is currently one of the lowest in NCAA history and would be a new ACC record if the season ended today.
Maguire is currently the No. 1 ranked golfer in Golfweek Individual rankings and in the World Amateur rankings.  She received All-ACC accolades for the third straight season.  She claimed the ACC Individual title in April for the second time in her career with a six-under-par, 210.
Choi, a senior from Seoul, South Korea, was named All-ACC for the third consecutive season, after registering a 73.52 stroke average entering the NCAA Championship.  She has collected three top-five finishes on the year, including a season-best tied fourth placement at the ACC Championship.  Choi turned in rounds of 71, 73 and 71 for a one-under-par, 215, in Pawleys Island, S.C.  It marked her second top-five finish in the ACC Championship over her career.  Choi will enter the NCAA Championship ranked 74th nationally.
For the second straight year, Carta was voted All-ACC with a 72.72 stroke average and is coming off a tied 18th finish at the NCAA Regional in Albuquerque, N.M.  Carta, who hails from Udine, Italy, featured a season-best second place finish at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic with a six-under-par, 210, and tied for 17th at the ACC Championship.  The reigning NCAA Individual Champion, Carta is currently ranked 63rd in the Golfweek ledger.
Singh, a junior from New Delhi, India, received All-ACC accolades for the first time in her career, after totaling a career-best 72.81 stroke average with three top 10 and five top 20 finishes.  She tied for 17th at the ACC Championship and registered a tied sixth placement at both the Tar Heel Invitational and Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.  In the latest Golfweek rankings, Singh is listed 59th.
Louisville's Lauren Hartlage was named the ACC Freshman of the Year and Florida's State' Amy Bond was selected ACC Coach of the Year.
On Wednesday, Duke finished second in the NCAA Albuquerque Regional to earn its 29th selection in the NCAA Championship, which will take place May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farm in Sugar Grove, Ill.  The Blue Devils have collected three team wins on the season and have finished no lower than second over the last five stroke play events.
