LYDIA HALL MAKES IT FIVE OUT OF FIVE

WPGA ONE DAY SERIES RESULTS RELEASE: South Herts Golf Club

Lydia Hall completed a 100 per cent record in the WPGA One Day Series to take this year’s competition after winning the final event at South Herts Golf Club.

The South Wales based Ladies European Tour player has finished top of the leaderboard in all of the five One Day events she has taken part in this year.

Hall, representing Hensol Golf Academy, led home the professional contingent in the seventh round at the North London venue by one shot after carding a one under par round of 73.

She was matched by Norfolk amateur Amy Taylor and they edged out Leicestershire’s Kym Larratt (Kibworth Golf Club) and Sian Evans (Kings Hill Golf Club).

But Hall said she wanted to support the WPGA as much as possible this year - and only missed two events, one due to injury and other due to a schedule clash.

“I’m really pleased I managed to play five out of the seven events, and happy to have won or tied first in all of them,” she explained.

“The series has kept my golf ticking over and kept me competitive. And some of the courses we get to play have been fantastic. Hopefully there’s more of that next year.”

Hall admits she was able to fit in the series into a busy year: “I didn't play in the third round because my back flared up and the other one I couldn't play in clashed with the Scottish Open. Other than that, it’s slotted in quite nicely, I’ve been lucky this year.”

And Hall has already pencilled in plans to play again in 2018 - but much depends on her tour commitments: “Fingers crossed, I can hopefully play in this series again next year.

“But I’m going to the LPGA Q-School in October and I have quite a heavy end of year schedule. I think I’ve been away for 12 weeks out of 16. But it all depends if I get my LPGA tour card then I’m not sure if I’d be able to fit them all in.
“Whenever I’m home I like to support the WPGA as much as I can.”

Hall admits her final margin of victory at South Herts could have been even greater: “The par fives are quite short there and I didn’t take advantage which was a little frustrating.

“But I managed to pull it all together and get it into an under par round. I’d had a couple of weeks off since the British Open so I was a bit stale but I was solid. And it was nice to play with Cathy Panton-Lewis, who is a founder member of the Ladies European Tour, to have a catch up and chat with her. It was good to pick her brains in terms of my hopes for next year.”
