Second round play in the English U16 and U14 girls' championships at Blackmoor Golf Club, Hampshire, was abandoned today when torrential rain flooded the course.

The cut in both championships will be based on yesterday's first round scores and place will resume tomorrow.

In the U16 championship 41 players qualified for the final 36 holes, with the cut falling at six-over par.

In the U14s, 18 players qualified for the final 18 holes, with the cut falling at five-over.

England Golf Championship Director James Crampton said: "The course is flooded and, with a great deal more heavy rain forecast, we have no alternative but to abandon play today. But the forecast for tomorrow is good and we are looking forward to an exciting final day."

After the first round the U16 championship was led by Yorkshire's Charlotte Heath (Huddersfield) and Finalnd's Kerttu Hiltunen who were both four-under par. Spain's Ana Pina Ortega leads the U14s on level par 72.
