Wendy leads Scottish senior women with a 77 at Blairgowrie
Wendy Nicholson (Baberton) leads the way with a three-over-par 77 in a high scoring first round of the Scottish senior women's open amateur championship over Blairgowrie Golf Club's tree-lined Rosemount Course.
Wendy settled down after a bogey-strewn opening to her round - shots dropped at the first, second, fourth and sixth - which saw her through the turn in four-over-par 40. But the Edinburgh player covered her last 12 holes in one under par, thanks to a birdie at the 12th and an inward half of 37.
North challenger Alison Bartlett (Royal Dornoch) had two birdie 2s on her card, at the short third and 15th but a double bogey 7 at the 17th in halves of 38-40  cost her the lead  with a 78.
Heather Anderson (Blaigowrie) also had a double bogey 7, but at the par-5 fifth but she had four birdies in all in halves of 39-40.
Gillian Kyle (East Renfrewshire) looked to be heading for the lead when she birdied the 14th after dropping shots at the second, fourth and sixth, but she finished weakly with bogeys at the 16th, 17th and 18th for a share of third place on 79.
