Leona Maguire Receives ACC Golfer of Month Accolades

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke University junior Leona Maguire (pictured left)  has been named the ACC Women's Golfer of the Month for April after finishing first at the ACC Championship two weeks ago.

Maguire claimed her second ACC Championship medalist honor at the Reserve Golf Club at Pawleys Island, S.C., to lead the Blue Devils to the team title for the first time since 2014, for the 19th time under current head coach Dan Brooks and the 20th time in Duke history.

The Cavan, Ireland, native who also medaled as a freshman in 2015, posted a two-under total of 70 in the final round and finished with a three-day, six-under-par score of 210 to place two shots ahead of Wake Forest's Jennifer Kupcho.

Maguire became just the fourth golfer to win multiple ACC women's titles and the first since Duke's Amanda Blumenherst placed first three consecutive years from 2006 through 2008.  Maguire has now won the ACC Golfer of the Month accolade six times over her career.

Duke is seeded No. 3 in the Albuquerque Region and will kick off action May 8-10 in the NCAA Regional action.
