Lily May stages a victory march to English U16 girls' title   Girl international Lily May Humphreys staged a victory march today, winning the English U16 girls’ open championship by six shots at The Nottinghamshire.  Humphreys (image © Leaderboard Photography) was nine-under par for the 72-holes, signing off with today with rounds of two-under 70 and 71.  She adds this to the English U14 title which she won last year. Afterwards the 14-year-old from Channels in Essex revealed: “I just really like winning, once I think I can win I’m determined to do it and really disappointed if I don’t.”  She also confessed to being slightly disappointed because she hadn’t achieved one of her championship goals of getting to double figures under par! “I was three-over par for the last six holes. I’d played really well before that but just had this mad half hour.  “But I also wanted to finish all my rounds under par and I did that, so that’s good,” said Humphreys who scored 70, 68, 70, 71.  The 72-hole championship developed into a title tussle between Humphreys and her England team-mate Amelia Williamson, who was the runner-up on three-under par. Williamson, from Royal Cromer, was the first round leader with her opening 68.  Humphreys then moved two shots ahead after the second round and didn’t let go. The players were still two shots apart after the third round, but in the final round Humphreys got off to a quick start, reaching the turn in four-under par while Williamson was two-over.  Williamson, 16, narrowed the gap on the back nine, but by then Humphreys was too far ahead to be caught.  Her verdict on the week: “I kept the ball in play most of the time and my holing out was good. I took my chances out there to make a lot of birdies and I tried to keep as many bogeys as possible off my card.
