East Lothian Ladies County Golf Association Championship

Top two seeds lose early at windy Musselburgh

With a strong easterly wind at Musselburgh Golf Club, the Scratch Championship set off early this morning resulting in surprise losses for two previous champions. 
Dulcie Barnes played steadily to beat Mary Lou Watkins, No. 1 seed and the 2014 champion, 3 and 2. 
In the bottom half of the draw, Sarah Stichbury beat the second seed, Liz Dunn Butler, the reigning champion, by two holes.

FIRST ROUND
Dulcie Barnes (North Berwick) bt Mary Lou Watkins (Gullane Ladies) 3 and 2.
Susan Penman (Gullane Ladies) bt Elaine Wolstencroft (Kilspindie) 3 and 1.
Keren Ward (North Berwick) bt Hazel Saunders (Gullane Ladies) 2 and 1
Barbara Biggart (North Berwick) bt Dianne Brown (Renaissance) 1 hole.
Jane Herd (Gullane Ladies) bt Jill McNicoll (Dirleton Castle) 2 holes.
Pam Hall (Royal Musselburgh) bt Stacey Cameron (Gullane Ladies) 6 and 4.
Kay Lannin (Craigielaw) bt Elinor Blair (North Berwick) 4 and 3
Sarah Stichbury (Gullane Ladies) bt Liz Dunn Butler (Gullane Ladies) 2 holes.
 
The conditions were more difficult in the afternoon with a swirling wind but the sun did come out at times. Dulcie Barnes and Susan Penman had a close match with Susan triumphing at the 17th
Keren Ward played steady golf and won at the 14th with a birdie. Jane Herd played well against Pam Hall to win 6 and 5. Kay Lannin and Sarah Stichbury played par golf ,with Kay winning with  a birdie at the 18th .

QUARTER-FINALS
Penman bt Barnes 3 and 1.
Ward bt Biggart 5 and 4.
Herd bt Hall 6 and 5.
Lannin bt Stichbury 1 hole.


In the Handicap Quaich all the matches were close in the morning and the final tomorrow will be between two Musselburgh members.

QUARTER-FINALS
Anne Rorrison (Musselburgh) bt Val Balfour (Dunbar) 3 and 1
Janette Laing (Musselburgh) bt Barbara Wallace (Dunbar) 3 and 1.
Lilias McNicoll (Dirleton Castle) bt Christian Blake (North Berwick) 2 and 1
Anne Blundell (Musselburgh) bt Marie Young (North Berwick) 2 holes.

Semi-finals
 Laing bt Rorrison 4 and 2.
Blundell  bt McNicoll  2 holes.

 
The scratch championship semi-finals tee off at 9am 
and the final of the handicap tees off at 9.15am. The final of the scratch will tee off at 2pm with the prizegiving at approximately 5 - 5.30 pm.
