Aditi from India spreadeagles St Rule Trophy field

Aditi Ashok, a 17-year-old from Bangalore, India, has spreadeagled the St Rule Trophy field with rounds of 67 and 71 over the par-75 St Andrews New Course to stand on 12-under-par 138 with a lead of three strokes going into Sunday's final round over the Old Course, writes Colin Farquharson.

Hollie, winner of the SLGA Under-16 girls open stroke play at Strathmore in April, has had rounds of 74 and 70 for six-under 144.
The field is spread out, trailing in Ashok's wake.

SO WHO IS ADITI ASHOK?
We put a Google search on her and this is what it came up with:

ADITI ASHOK is the only Indian golfer (male or female) to have played in the Asian Youth Games, Youth Olympic Games and Asian Games.
She has made 11 cuts in the 12 professional events played in, including a tied 38th finish at the 2014 Omega Dubai Ladies Masters. Not bad at all for an amateur!
She has a growing list of records to her credit, including youngest winner of WGAI’s ladies professional tournament in 2011 at 13 years and 5 months. Finished low amateur twice in LET Hero Women's Indian Open in 2012 and 2014 at Tied 8th and Tied 14th positions respectively.
She is three time National Junior Champion of India for 2014, 2013 and 2012 and two time National Amateur Champion for 2014 and 2011 and has won numerous national junior and amateur titles from the age of 10.

Aditi has been playing for Team India in various junior and amateur tournaments since the age of 12 and has an impressive tally of top 10 finishes and 3 wins.
She is currently ranked 193 in the WAGR, possibly because she has not been playing in events in which there have been higher-ranked players.

FROM CLAIR CURNIN.
Vice-captain, Royal Montrose Ladies
I wonder if you can help in ‘drumming up’ some additional entries for the above event.  We are in a situation that we may have to cancel due to lack of entries.  This seems to be the rather sad case at the moment with a lot of clubs.  We have been affected by the move in date of the "Northern" at Carnoustie.

Our Medal Course is looking wonderful at the moment, especially as the rough isn’t too long or thick!

We have the world numbers 1 and 3, in Leona Maguire and Bronte Law, but importantly we have strength in depth with players who have already shown that they can perform consistently well on the world stage.

“I am particularly pleased that Alice Hewson and Olivia Mehaffey who were in my Junior Vagliano team at Chantilly two years ago have made the progression to the senior team. Hopefully we will have a strong home support to cheer the team to victory.”
This will be the 29th Vagliano Trophy match. The Continent has won the last four matches but GB and I lead 16-12 overall.

The Vagliano team is made up of four automatic selections from the World Amateur Golf Ranking, two from the LGU Order of Merit and three wild card picks. The junior team is picked by a selection panel.
The England players:

GB and I teams announced for Vagliano

Trophy and Junior Vagliano matches

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE LADIES’ GOLF UNION
The LGU has today announced the Great Britain and Ireland team of nine which will challenge the Continent of Europe for the Vagliano Trophy at Malone Golf Club, Belfast on Friday-Saturday, June 26- 27.
There are six English players in the team, which will be captained by Elaine Farquharson-Black. They are Gemma Clews, Hayley Davis, Alice Hewson, Bronte Law, Meghan MacLaren and Charlotte Thomas. World No 1 amateur Leona Maguire and Olivia Mehaffey are the Irish players in the line-up while Chloe Williams is the Welsh
representative.

Maguire, Law, MacLaren and Davis were automatic selections through the Women's World Amateur Rankings.
Similarly, Hewson and Mehaffey, as the top two eligible players in the Ladies’ Golf Union Order of Merit, were also automatic choices.
The LGU Selection Panel's three wild-card selections are Clews, Thomas and Williams.

Team captain Elaine Farquharson-Black, pictured right, who played in two winning GB and I teams in the Vagliano Trophy matches of 1989 and 1991, said:
"I am looking forward to the match against the Continent of Europe. In recent years, Europe has had the upper hand, but I am feeling very excited about our team. We have the world numbers 1 and 3, in Leona Maguire and Bronte Law,
but importantly we have strength in depth with players who have already shown that they can perform consistently well on the world stage.
"I am particularly pleased that Alice Hewson and Olivia Mehaffey, who were in my Junior Vagliano team at Chantilly two years ago, have made the progression to the senior team. Hopefully we will have a strong home support to cheer the team to victory."
The Vagliano Trophy was donated by Mr A A Vagliano. Since 1959 it has been at stake in a biennial match between GB and  Ireland and the Continent of Europe.
This will be the 29th match in the series. GB and I has won 16 matches and the Continent of Europe 12 but Europe is on a roll with four victories in a row since 2007. Their victory at Chantilly two years ago was by 16.5 to 7.5pt, their biggest ever margin of victory.

 JUNIOR VAGLIANO TROPHY TEAM
The 3rd Junior Vagliano Trophy match will also be part of the programme at Malone Golf Club and is contested by a team of six players aged 16 and under on the January 1, 2015.
The match was introduced four years ago, with the support of the R and A.

The Continent of Europe won this first encounter 13-5 at Royal Porthcawl in 2011 and followed that up with a 14-4 victory at Chantilly in 2013.
The GB and I Junior Vagliano team will be captained by former Irish international Claire Coughlan-Ryan who
said,

“I am really looking forward to the Junior Vagliano match next month. The recent introduction of this exciting new event has really provided a platform for these young players to move to the next level and the skill and youthful enthusiasm that will be on display at Malone bodes well for the future of GB and I golf.”
Helen Hewlett (nee Dobson) will fulfil the role of Team Manager for both teams.

Catriona Matthew in the mix at LPGA Classic
FROM SKYSPORTS.COM
American Morgan Pressel fired a five-under-par 66 to take a one-shot lead after the opening round of the Shoprite LPGA Classic.
Pressel, second at last month's LPGA Swinging Skirts Classic and seeking her third LPGA title, closed with an eagle at the par-five ninth to claim the lead at Galloway in New Jersey.
The 27-year-old recovered from a bogey at the 14th with birdies at 16 and the par-five 18th.
She then birdied the par-five third and the fifth before stumbling again at the sixth, but bounced back with a birdie at the eighth and then her eagle.
"I really didn't put myself in a whole lot of trouble," Pressel said. "I wouldn't say that I certainly had the best game out there. I felt like I made a few mistakes. But I guess I just made a few mistakes, and I didn't play all that well, but then I came down birdie at eight and eagling the last hole. That definitely helps."
One stroke off the pace ahead of Saturday's second round of the 54-hole event are Canada's Alena Sharp, Taiwan's Min Lee, Sweden's Anna Nordqvist and American Ryann O'Toole.
A pack of 10 players share sixth place on 67, including South Koreans Jenny Shin and Park Hee-Young, Scotland's Catriona Matthew, Swede Pernilla Lindberg, Dutchwoman Christel Boeljon, Thailand's Thidapa Suwannapura, Canada's Brooke Henderson and Americans Gerina Piller and Sydnee Michaels.
