Paul Lawrie Ladies Invitational first-round report and scores

Leading lady Laura Murray has two-stroke

advantage from Kylie Walker

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Alford's Laura Murray (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) was the only player to shoot under par in the Paul Lawrie Ladies Invitational first round at Deeside.

Her one-under 69 givs her a two-shot lead from Kylie Walker (Mar Hall) going into Wednesday's second and final round in pursuit of the £2,250 first prize (runner-up gets £1,000) and the splendid Ladies Tartan Tour Championship Trophy.
Laura, pictured, birdied the second and fourth in a bogey-free outward half of two-under-par 32.
She gained another shot with a birdie at the 11th but that was as good as it got for Murray. She bogeyed the 13th and the 18th when she had a chance to spreadeagle the field.
Kylie Walker, in contrast, took a while to warm up. She bogeyed the third and fourth and did not get the first of two birdies, until the ninth.Turning in one-over 37, she bogeyed the 15th but got a 2 at the short 16th for 34 home and a 71.
Three players are tied for third place on 72 - Alyson McKechin (Elderslie), a former Scottish amateur champion, Heather MacRae (Gleneagles), a former British amateur stroke-play champion, and an Abertay University, Dundee student from Slovenia, Nastja Banovec.
McKechin had three birdies, at the sixth, ninth and 11th in halves of 38 and 34. Five bogeys prevented her from breathing down Laura Murray's neck.
MacRae birdied the eighth and 14th but had four bogeys - the fourth, seventh, 10thand 11th in halves of 37-35.
Banovec has been figuring prominently in Scottish university golf circles but held her own among the lady pros. In fact, but for bogeys at the 17th and 18th, she would have been occupying second place on 70 at the halfway stage.
Earlier she had birdied the fourth and turned in one-under 35.
Her first bogey came at the 12th.
Sally Watson is tied seventh on 74 which included a double bogey 6 at the 10th.
The top 10 finishers will earn money (if they are professionals):
1 £2,250; 2 £1,000; 3 £650; 4 £325; 5 £225; 6 £180; 7 £125; 8 £95; 9 £80; 10 £70.
