Lesley Watson regains Duff House Royal
five-day title
By LAURA McLARDY
Former title-holder Lesley Watson (Cambuslang) has regained the Duff House Royal women's five-day open tournament title.
Banff
escaped the worst of the weather this week for the 31st staging of the tournament.
After a closely fought final where Heather
Anderson won the last to force a sudden death play-off, both players
played excellent approach shots to the 19th, to 6 feet to set up great
birdie opportunities.
Lesley holed her putt after Heather's attempt
slipped past, allowing Lesley to regain the scratch title. The winner
for the last three years and top seed, Susan McGrenaghan, lost in the
morning semi-finals.
A near-capacity field enjoyed the
competition, which provides match-play for those lucky enough to qualify,
and consolation competitions for those less fortunate.
