JESS AND CLARA MAKE GOOD START
TO JIM WEST CHALLENGE
Carnoustie's Jess Meek and her Missouri University team-mate, Clara Young from North Berwick were lying joint third and joint 12th respectively in a field of 69 players at the end of the first round of the Jim West Challenge at Tapatio Springs Resort, Boerne in Texas.
Over a par-72 course of 6,234yd, Jess shot a 73 to be two shots behind leader Taylor Kim (Kent State).
Clara, a freshman, had an opening 75.
Meanwhile, in the one-round Winthrop Intercollegiate at Rock Hill Country Club, South Carolina, Lucy Walker (Winthrop), pictured right, had an 85 to finish T25 in a field of 46, seven shots behind the joint winners, Lauren Dunbar (Wofford) and Madalyn Davis (Appalachian State), in a high-scoring competition.
Lucy is a third-year student from Ormskirk.
Alice Plumb (Bethune Cookman), a sophomore from Somerset, finished T32 on 89.
