GEMMA WEBSTER LEADS TOUR 

CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD WITH A 66

Glasgow's Gemma Webster (Succession Group) produced her best round of the season just when she needed it most - on the opening day of the Paul Lawrie Ladies' Tartan Tour 36-hole championship at Marriott Dalmahoy, Edinburgh.
Gemma shot a two-under-par 66 over the West Course to lead by one shot from Sally Watson (Castle Stuart) and Vikki Laing (Kings Acre) with title-holder Heather MacRae (Gleneagles Hotel), Fife-based Heather Stirling and American Beth Allen sharing fourth palce on 68.
Webster's only bogey came early - at the first - and she then covered the remaining 17 holes in three under par with birdies at the second, sixth and long 13th.
Elie-based Ladies European Tour player Watson had birdies at the second, thihard and seventh with bogeys at the fifth and 10th. She could not get a birdie putt to drop over her last eight holes.
Laing had a little bit of everything in her round - an eagle 2 at the par-4 sixth and birdies at the seventh and 13th but also a double bogey 6 at the 15th and single shots dropped at the first, eighth and 17th.
Defending champion MacRae had two birdies (first and 13th) and two bogeys (sixth and 18th) in her par-matching round.
The field switches over to the longer, more difficult East Course tomorrow.
