TOUGH FOR SCOTS IN NICK FALDO SERIES GRAND FINAL AT WEST VIRGINIA
The Scots in the field at the Nick Faldo Junior Series Grand Final at Greenbrier, West Virginia found the international opposition just a little bit overpowering on the first day.
Best of the Scots was Alex Chalk with a five-over-par 75 which left him eight shots off the cracking pace set by Austria's Philipp Hermann who forged three shots clear with a brilliant round of 67.
Andrew Davidson was the second best Scot with a 78 for a share of 46th place.
Michael Brodie (Strathmore) will start the second round in joint 65th place after an 81 while Aboyne's Shannon McWilliam, the Scottish Under-14 girls champion, had an 83 for joint 78th place.
The overall scoreboard is a bit misleading because there are several age-group sections so that though a player is well down the overall list of scores, he or she may, in fact, be well placed in their own age-group.

October 2013:  Philipp Hermann fired a superb 67 to take a first round
lead in the seventeenth Faldo Series Grand Final at The Greenbrier in
West Virginia, USA. The 16-year-old from Austria is three shots ahead of
the chasing pack, which includes defending champion Jack Singh-Brar.
PGA
of America nominees Megan Khang and Sam Burns from Louisiana are also
in contention after level par 70s on the Old White TPC. 16-year-old
Khang from Rockland, Massachusetts leads the girls’ division by one shot
and is making her Faldo Series debut this week alongside seven other
golfers from the US.
The
largest ever field for a Faldo Series Grand Final is in the USA for the
tournament’s seventeenth edition.  99 golfers from 19 countries are
with Sir Nick Faldo at The Greenbrier for the 54-hole World Amateur Golf
Ranking event which concludes on October 24.
With
the field divided into five age-groups, three boys and two girls will
each receive a trophy and an exemption into the Asia Grand Final at
Mission Hills Golf Club in China next March. The leading boy and girl
will also be invited to play in a professional Tour event and the title
of Faldo Series Champion will go to the player with the lowest gross
score, regardless of age or gender.
Off
the course players are spending time with Faldo’s personal coach Keith
Wood and experts from TrackMan at the new Faldo Golf Centre.  Faldo is
on hand all week to spend time with the competitors, including a clinic
today where he was joined by sports psychologist Dr Gio Valiante.

tournaments in 15 countries including six in England plus others in
Ireland, Abu Dhabi, Chile, the Czech Republic, Scotland, Austria, Wales,
