GIANT-KILLER OLIVIA REACHES LAST FOUR OF IRISH CHAMPIONSHIP

Olivia Mehaffey, the last of the 64 qualifiers for the match-play stages,  followed up her shock first-round win over top seed Stephanie Meadow by reaching the semi-finals of the Irish closed women's amateur championship in bright and very breezy (gale-force winds) conditions at Ballybunion Golf Club today.
The GB and I Junior Vagliano Trophy team selection beat former champion Karen Delaney in the morning second-round and then secured a place in the last four with a 4 and 3 win over Maria Dunne.
Olivia started well and recorded birdies at the eighth and ninth to turn six up.
Lisa Maguire beat twin sister Leona at the 19th in the morning and reached the semi-finals - in which she will play Mehaffey - with a one-hole victory over Amy Farrell.
