PRO CHARLOTTE ELLIS WINS ROEHAMPTON LADIES OPEN GOLF CUP

Professional Charlotte Ellis won the 86^th Roehampton Ladies Open Gold Challenge Cup in south-west London on Saturday.    

The weather was perfect and the course in the best condition it could be after the prolonged winter.  The greens have a reputation for being the best in the area, not to say the country, and were running at eleven on the stimp meter as the day got under way.   

They did not disappoint, but they did affect the scores as the sun shone continuously, creating some very fast surfaces by mid-day.

This year it was the turn of the professionals to prevail after two years of amateur winners (Georgia Hall 2012 and Rachel Drummond 2011).    

Charlotte Ellis, who turned professional in January 2012, took the honours with two rounds of 75 for a total 150.  Charlotte, from a formidable sporting family, has been a life long member of Minchinhampton Golf Club.   

As an amateur she was a regular member of the Gloucestershire county team, winner of the South West Championship twice in 2006 and 2008 and the English Mid-Amateur Championship in 2006.  

Charlotte also played in the England team at the Home Internationals in 2008, 2009 and 2010. 

She has had a very successful record at the Roehampton event , being runner up twice - in 2009 as an amateur and again as a professional last year.     

Her perseverance has paid off and she said she is delighted to get her name on the famous trophy at last.   Her ambitions are to play on the LET Tour, top the LET Order of Merit and represent Europe in the Solheim Cup.

Runner-up was another professional, Hannah Ralph from Cowdray Park, with rounds of 81 and 72 for a total 153.  Also on 153 (74,79), was Stacey Rodger from West Hove.    

Caroline Grady, a regular supporter of the Gold Cup and a professional from Dunston Hall, was on 154, her total  including  two eagles – a three at the par five 2^nd and a two at the par four 18^th. 

Flying the flag for the amateurs was Jerri Sewell from Shooter’s Hill in south-east London  on 153 (76,77).   
Jane Rees from Hendon, an active member of the England seniors ‘tour’, was second amateur on 156 (78,78).   Charlotte West from Harewood Downs was also on 156 with Hannah Moul from Stoke by Nayland on 158.

Best morning round prize went to Hampshire amateur and former British and English international Kerry Smith from Waterlooville with a 76. Best in the afternoon was Kyra Horlock from Broadstone, Dorset, also with a 76.
