SCOT ANNE WALKER LEADS STANFORD TO THREE WINS IN A ROW

FROM THE STANFORD UNIVERSITY WEBSITE
SAN JOSE, California - Stanford made it three team victories in a row by finishing with a 12-over-par 878 to win the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational women's golf tournament this week at the Almaden Golf and Country Club, San Jose.
Freshman Mariah Stackhouse (70-71-71) maintained her brilliant form, shooting a four-under-par 212 to win the individual title by six strokes at the head of a field of 75 players. She led the tournament throughout and was the only player to shoot under par in the final round.
"I hit my approach shots very well," said Stackhouse who collected her second collegiate title. "I wasn't able to convert as many birdie opportunities as I would have liked, but I made enough to make up for the few bogeys I had. I stayed very patient this entire round. Even when I was in a difficult position, I thought about the fact that conditions were tough and that I wanted to be there for my team."
The Cardinal (287-291-300) won the 54-hole event at 878, 11 strokes ahead of second-place Washington at 889.
Stanford opened with the best team round and only under-par round of the tournament at 287. During the second round, the Cardinal shot a 291 and finished at 300 in the final round over a par-72 course of 6180yd.
"This was our first win being out in front," said Scot Anne Walker, Stanford's Director of Women's Golf. "There were tough conditions today and the mood was different because we already had the lead. It was a great learning day and we are a better team for it.
"It's hard to win two in a row and to win three is truly special. We are on track as a program and I like our progress."
Another Scot, Kathryn Imrie, is Anne Walker's chief assistant.
Danielle Frasier (73-71-78) had a career-best finish tying for ninth at 222. Last week the junior matched her career-best finish after tying for 14th at 149 during the 36-hole Cal Classic Invitational.
Freshman Lauren Kim (72-79-75) and senior Sally Watson from Scotland (72-78-76) tied for 16th at 226.
English-born Charlotte Thomas (Washington) extended her sequence of top-10 finishes by being placed joint fifth on 221 with scores of 76 70 and 75.
Stanford returns to competition for the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at Maui, Hawaii, on March 25-27.
"Our goal was to win one of our first three events and we ended up with a NorCal sweep," said Stackhouse. "The fact that I was able to catch my first two individual titles in the midst of it all is just icing on the cake."
