GRANT FORREST CAUGHT OVER FINAL ROUND IN CALIFORNIA

Scottish amateur champion Grant Forrest from North Berwick, a second-year student at San Diego University, finished
second in the San Diego Classic college golf tournament this week
after leading the field of 84 players into the final round at Chula  Vista Golf Club, California.
Forrest, pictured, had scores of 70, 68 and 73 for a seven-under-par total of 209 over a longish course of 7,033yd with a par of 72.
Arizona State's Jon Rahm, trailing the Scot by four shots after opening rounds of 72-70, made up the leeway with a final round of five-under-par 67 for a two-stroke win with a total of seven-under 209.

Tom Berry, a junior year student at San Diego State University and a Surrey man, finished seventh on 215 with scores of 73-71-71.
Tom's effort helped San Diego State to win the team title with a total of 864, ahead of Arizona State and Texas Christian (both 867), Texas Tech (872) and San Diego (878) in a field of 14 teams.

CHRIS ROBB MAKES ALABAMA TOP 10
 

Former Scottish schoolboys champion Chris Robb (Tennessee-Chattanooga University) from Banchory finished joint 10th in a field of 81 at the Tiger Invitational college tournament at Grand National Golf Club, Opelika in Alabama.
Robb, pictured left, winner of the North-east District Open at Newmachar last summer, shot 72, 76 and 75 for a total of 213 over a 7,149yd (par-72) course.
He finished 10 shots behind the winner by three, Chad Ramey (Mississippi State) (72-71-70).
In the same event Liam Johnston from Dumfries, a team-mate of Robb's, had scores of 80-75-79 for 235 and a share of 53rd place.

Chattanooga finished fifth of 15 in the team event won by Mississippi State ahead of Memphis.

TOP 30 TEXAS FINISH BY SEAN LAWRIE


Sean Lawrie, nephew of Paul and a student at Midland College, Texas, finished in joint 28th position in a field of 64 at the NJCAA District 2 preview tournament at Sugar Tree Golf Club, Dennis in Texas.
Over a par-71 course of 6659yd, Lawrie (pictured right) shot 76-80 for 156 - nine shots behind the joint winners, Cameron Liddell (Tyler) (73-74) and Ryan Beatty (McLennan) (73-74).
Chris Low (McLennan) from North Berwick tied for 42nd place on 160 with scores of 83-77 but he helped McLennan College win the team title.

Also on the 160 mark was Chris Cotton (Tyler), a freshman from England. Chris scored a pair of 80s.
McLennan (595) won the team title ahead of Paris (602) with Tyler (610) third and Midland (614) fourth in a field of 11 teams.

SCOTT GIBSON IN TOP 50 AT 
MYRTLE BEACH
 
Scott Gibson (East Tennessee State) from Dumfries finished joint 43rd in a field of 63 at the General Hackler Championship college event at TPC of Myrtle Beach.
Gibson, pictured right, scored 82, 79 and 74 for 235 - 20 shots behind the joint winners, Oliver Goss (Tennessee) and Taylor Pendrith (Kent State).

Two other East Tennessee State students, Walker Cup player Rhys Pugh from Pontypridd and Tom Heggarty from Cheshire, figured in the event.
Over a par-72 course of 6,950yd, Pugh scored 76-75-80 for 231 and a T34 placing while Heggarty was T57 on 246 with scores of 79, 80 and 87.
