PERTH'S CALUM HILL FINISHES THIRD IN NEW MEXICO

Calum Hill from Perth, a first-year student at Western New Mexico University, finished third in a field of 28 players at the New Mexico Collegiate Cup tournament at Sierra Del Rio Golf Club on Sunday.
Calum, pictured right, had rounds of 72-74 over a long par-72 course of 7,331yd for a total of two-over 146.
He finished three shots behind the winner, David Persons (University of Texas-El Paso) who had scores of 69 and 74 for a one-under 143 over a course he knows well as he comes from that area.
Joseph Abella (New Mexico) was runner-up on 145 (72-73).
Three of Calum Hill's freshmen team-mates, Tom Neve from Spsom, Dan Young from Cheshire and Ben Skinner, a former Loretto School student from Hertfordshire), also took part in the tournament.
Neve finished joint eighth on 151 (75-76); Young T14 on 155 (75-80)
and Skinner 24th on 160 (82-78).
There was no team event.   

PHELAN JT FIFTH AT GAINESVILLE

Ireland's Kevin Phelan, a candidate for a place in the 2011 GB and I Walker Cup team at Royal Aberdeen, finished joint fifth in the SunTrust Gator Invitational over at the Mark Bostic Golf Club at the University of Florida, Gainesville course.
Over a par-70 course of 6,701yd, North Florida student Phelan, pictured right, had scores of 73-69-67 for a total of one-under 209.
He finished six strokes behind the winner, Daniel Beger (Florida State) (69-69-65 for seven-under 203).
Scott Wolfes (Georgia State) finished second on 206 (70-66-70).
A second Irishman in the field, Paul Dunne, a student at the University of Alabama-Birmingham) finished T33 in a field of 75 players. He scored 71-72-74 for 217.
Florida State (832) won the team title ahead of North Florida (847) with South Alabama (850) third in a field of 14 teams.
