SCOTLAND BEAT WALES, IRELAND KO ENGLAND TITLE HOPES

A jubilant Scotland team after their victory over Wales today. Picture by Carol Fell

Scotland made a good start to the senior women's home golf internationals at Elie and Earlsferry, Fife today .
They beat Wales 5-3 and now face England whose hopes of retaining the title were mortally wounded when Ireland beat them for the first time in this series which started in 2003.
Ireland have never won the over-50s title but this 6-2 win makes them hot favourites to break their duck.
Two North players made huge contributions to the Scotland effort.
Alison Bartlett (Royal Dornoch), who did not play in the morning foursomes which were shared 1 1/2-1 1/2 against Wales, came off the bench to beat the legendary Vicki Thomas by 4 and 3 after winning the first three holes.
Then, with the overall matched poised at 4-3 in Scotland's favour but Wales hoping to win the last match to salvage a draw, Tain's Mary Smith rose to the occasion to beat the experienced Jane Rees by one hole.
Scotland play England on the second day with the prospects of a backlash performance by the well beaten English a strong possibility.
Ireland play Wales and should pick up another win before they meet Scotland in Thursday's final programme

LORENA OCHOA ONE-OFF COMEBACK IN FRENCH LADIES OPEN

NEWS RELEASE FROM LADIES EUROPEAN TOUR
By BETHAN CUTLER
Former world number one Lorena Ochoa makes a limited return to professional golf this week when she tees up in the Lacoste Ladies Open de France at Chantaco Golf Club in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Aquitaine, France, on the Ladies European Tour from October 4-7.
The 30-year-old Mexican was No.1 for three years and won two majors and 27 tour victories before retiring from full-time golf in April 2010 to focus on her family and charities.
In this interview, Lorena discusses her reasons for playing in France.
Lorena, what brought you to Chantaco to play the Lacoste Ladies Open de France this week?
It’s an easy answer. Having Lacoste as a sponsor, they asked me to come and play the tournament. They asked me actually last year and I couldn’t because I was pregnant so I said, no, it would be too difficult for me. I prefer to wait for next year. Here I am and I’m very happy to support the tournament. They’ve been very good to me being my sponsor for so long so I’m happy to be here.

FROM SCOTT KNOWLES
As you may or may not know I am now managing the Stephen Gallacher Foundation for Junior golf which we run very similar to Paul Lawrie's Foundation.
I have detailed below a couple of reports on events that we have run recently, mainly our Finals Day for Under 12 and Under 10, Boys and Girls and Under 7 boys, which we held on Sunday 23rd September 2012 at Kingsfield Golf Club and our "Race to Dunbar" finals day for Under 18 boys and girls, at Dunbar Golf Club.
Also please feel free to check out information on our website

Report on Kingsfield Finals Day 23rd September 2012

Fantastic weather, fantastic venue, fantastic condition, fantastic golf. Basically a fantastic day.
What a brilliant way to finish our summer season, many thanks to Robert Arkley and all his team at Kingsfield Golf Course for making us so welcome and being perfect hosts, I am sure many of the kids will be back soon to play Kingsfield..
On the day we had Under 12 and Under 10 events for boys and girls, a special Under 7 boys section along with 2 prize draws and a adult and junior putting competition. A very busy day, in total we had 56 boys and girls competing.
Our prize draw winners both received annual membership of Kingsfield Golf Club, so congratulations to Ruaridh McKenzie and Aamar Saleem, while in the putting competition David Noon father of Jack Noon and Jack Gallacher son of Stephen Gallacher were the winners.
Congratulations to all the boys and girls who competed today as they all have contributed so much to the Foundation in its first year and they are a credit to the Foundation. The standard of golf has been tremendous, improving with each event. so clearly the coaching from Jane Connachan and David Burns at each of our events is paying dividends.
The winners today of each of the Under 12 and Under 10 sections were given membership of Kingsfield Golf Club along with a digicard for 500 balls a prize all were keen to win.
The course today was set up around the 1900 yard mark, in very testing conditions, special mention goes to our Under 12 winner, Calum Murray who was round in 35 shots, fantastic scoring. Also congratulations to all 10 of the players who on the day reached the 9th hole in there allocated 36 shots.
