CANCER SUPPORT SCOTLAND'S APPEAL TO SCOTTISH GOLF CLUBS

NEWS RELEASE
Cancer Support Scotland has launched a widespread appeal to encourage golf clubs across Scotland to select the organisation as their charity of the year. Based at the Gartnavel Hospital Complex in Glasgow, the charity provides practical and emotional support for people affected by cancer – from those living with the disease to their friends and family as well.
Via complementary therapies, one-to-one talking therapy and a network of support groups across the country, Cancer Support Scotland’s services aim to help people cope with the diagnosis, treatment and recovery from cancer. However, the charity can only continue to provide these vital services free of charge as a result of donations, which is why this appeal has been launched to encourage golf clubs all over Scotland to get involved.
Each golf club which partners up with Cancer Support Scotland will be offered tailored fund-raising advice and ideas, as well as promotional materials to ensure that each event is a great success.
Lynda Smith, Ladies Captain at Douglas Park Golf Club in Bearsden, which has already hosted a fund-raising event for the charity, said: “The services provided by Cancer Support Scotland make a real difference to the lives of people affected by cancer, and we are very proud as a golf club to be raising money for such a worthwhile cause.”
Cancer Support Scotland Chief Executive Colin Graham said: “In the time it takes to play a round of golf, at least 13 people in Scotland will have been given the shocking and devastating news that they have cancer.
“There is no denying that every golf club will have members who have been affected by the disease in some way, so it is a cause which is likely to gather fantastic support.
“Every penny raised will help us to make a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer in Scotland.”
