GRANT FOPRREST TIED 12TH IN JAPAN FOR SAN DIEGO UNIVERSITY

FROM THE SAN DIEGO UNIVERSITY WEBSITE
The University of San Diego golf team finished third amongst American schools in the 2012 Topy Cup at Tanagura Country Club in Tanagura, Japan.
The Toreros, who were making their first trip to Japan in school history, finished eighth overall. The tournament featured six Japanese schools and four American universities, but scores against U.S. schools will be the only statistics counted towards the 2012-13 season totals.
As a team the Toreros shot a 21-over (290-286-285=861) finishing behind Baylor (9-over) and Oregon State (14-over) but ahead of Pacific (+32).
Sophomore Alexis Gemme-Piacente posted the best score (+2; 74-69-69) for the Toreros, finishing tied for fifth amongst American competitors.
Sophomore Mathias Dahl posted the lowest single round score of any of the Toreros, shooting a 68 (2-under) in the second round. Dahl finished at 4-over (74-68-72), good for eighth amongst Americans. Dahl, who is from Stockholm, Sweden, was competing in his first tournament as a Torero after transferring from Glendale Community College.
Sophomores Linus Vaisanen and Scottish amateur champion Grant Forrest (pictured by Kenny Smith) from North Berwick finished tied for 12th after both finished with the same score in all three rounds to finish at 10-over (73-75-72). Freshman Alex Chiarella shot a 15-over (70-74-81) for the Toreros in his first collegiate competition.
The Toreros return to action October 8-9 at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational, hosted by Ohio State at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
