NICHOLA FERGUSON STILL D AND A CHAMPION

Milngavie's Nichola Ferguson, playing over her home course, retained the Dunbartonshire and Argyll women's county golf championship on a day of showers, some of them quite heavy. She beat the No 1 seed, clubmate Kirstin Scott by 6 and 4 in the final. In the semi-finals, Ferguson beat another Milngavie player, Anna Telfer, 3 and 1 in a repeat of last year's final. In the Bronze Championship final, Josephine Monaghan (Dumbarton) beat Audrey Gardiner (Hilton Park) at the 19th after being five up at one stage.
