KIM BRADBURY TOP SEED FOR ENGLISH WOMEN'S MID-AMATEUR

FROM THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION WEBSITE
Derbyshire’s Kim Bradbury shot level par over 36 holes at Collingtree Park, Northamptonshire, to lead the qualifiers for the matchplay stages of the English women’s mid-amateur championship. The event is sponsored by Tourism Ireland.
The Cavendish player, pictured, finished two shots clear of Lincolnshire’s Emilee Taylor and six ahead of the next group: Jess Wilcox, also from Lincolnshire, Tara Watters of Middlesex and Carley Warrington of Yorkshire.
Kim, 20, was two-over par in the morning, when her neat card was spoiled only by a triple bogey seven on the ninth, and she returned two-under 70 in the afternoon. She had eight birdies overall and commented: “I’ve had a great day.”
She came in to the event in fine form, having just played in Midlands North County Match Week at Chevin where she was undefeated in her seven games.
“I had been striking the ball well and I felt confident, so I just went out and trusted my swing today and it paid off,” she said.
Being top qualifier means a lot to Kim: “I always come into competitions with the intention of cutting my handicap as much as I can. If I can get recognised for it as well it’s an extra bonus,” she said. On this occasion she’s got down to scratch, which is her lowest handicap yet.
Kim has just completed her first year as a student at Old Dominion University in Virginia and the experience of playing on the US women’s college circuit has helped her golf. “It’s been fantastic and playing on the longer courses against tough opposition has helped my game,” she said.
Today, she will play Sian Evans of Kent who claimed the last match-play spot in a play-off against Imogen Covell of Huddersfield after both players tied for the 32nd and final place.
