Oklahoma City University's Laura Jones and Paige Martin were both honoured as repeat selections to the NAIA all-American women's golf team, announced Monday.
Jones, a senior-year student from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, was named a four-time all-American after a stellar senior season. She capped her time for the Stars with a tie for fourth and an all-tournament nod at the weekend's NAIA championship at Link Hills Golf and Country Club, Greenville, Tennessee,  with rounds of 77-77-76-73 for a total of 303 over three testing par-73 courses.
Her round of 73 - her last on the US women's college circuit - was the lowest fourth-round score of all the top-10 finishers and only one shot above the lowest final round score by any player in the big field.
Jones posted three tournament wins and had seven top-10 finishes in her final college year (2010-2011) at Oklahoma City. In all, she had six wins and umpteen top-10, top-20 finishes over the fours at OCU.
“For Laura to be honoured as a four-time all-American is a very big honour for her,” OCU coach Marty McCauley said. “There is no doubt she meant a great deal to the OCU program and will be missed.”
A recent graduate with a degree in kinesiology, Jones, pictured on right, was honoured as the first-ever two-time NAIA women's golfer of the week. Her 76.52 stroke per round average in 23 rounds placed her second in the NAIA. Jones carded an NAIA-best 50 birdies on the year.
With Laura on the foster, the Stars - nickname for Oklahoma City University women's golf team = posted 19 tournament wins in the past four seasons, including two national titles, a runner-up finish and a fourth-place finish at the NAIA championships.
Chester-born Laura, a member of Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake, where she was women's club champion in 2009, will be 22 on July 29. Her ambition is to turn professional on the Ladies European Tour.
