LAST YEAR'S LANARKSHIRE FINALISTS
MEET IN FIRST ROUND THIS TIME

Lanarkshire women's county champion Fiona Norris (Hamilton) ) opens the defence of her title at Hayston Golf Club tomorrow by playing Joanna Scott (Cathkin Braes) who she beat by 5 and 4 in last year's final.
Fiona qualified third yesterday (Wed) with a 76, three over the CSS) while Joanna is the 14th qualifier with an 86.
Lesley Lloyd (Hayston), pictured, the Lanarkshire county captain, earned the No 1 seed berth with a 73, two over the standard scratch but equal to the day's CSS.
No 2 qualifier is the 2008 county champion, Susan Wood (Drumpellier) who returned a 74.
Pam Rice was the leading qualifier for the Bronze Championship.
Adelia McEwan (Hayston) won the Centenary Trophy with the best net score, a 70.

Laura and Andrea make top 10 in Ohio

Valley Conference Championship

Two English students, Laura Culter from Essex and Andrea Downer from Surrey, made the top 10 in the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Championship at Grey Stone Golf Club, Dickson in Tennessee.
Laura, pictured first right, a third-year student at Jacksonville State University, finished joint third in a field of 40 players with scores of 75 and 73 for 148 - only three shots behind the winner, Chelsea Harris (Austin Peay State) (71-74) and two behind runner-up and team-mate Lucia Fernandez (75-71).
Andrea, pictured far right, squeezed into the top 10 in joint ninth position with a pair of 76s for 152.
Jacksonville State (598) won the team tile ahead of Murray State (604) in a field of eight squads.
Gemma Hardie makes top 10 in Texas

Gemma Hardie from Scunthorpe, a sophomore student at Central Arkansas University, tied for ninth place in a field of 40 players for the Southland Conference women's championship.
Gemma had steady scores of 73, 74 and 75 for a total of 222 over the par-71, 6067yd course at Raven Nest Golf Club, Huntsville in Texas.
Central Arkansas team-mate Rebecca Sorensen won by six strokes with rounds of 70, 70 and 73 for 213.

to Arkansas Tech for final two years

English students Jessica Schiele from Grimsby and Kelly MacPhail from Manchester, both freshmen at Redlands Community College, Oklahoma, finished second and third in the NJCAA Women's Region II Championship at Jimmie Austin Golf Club, Seminole in Oklahoma.
A Redlands team-mate, Kaitlin Higginbotham, finished first on 154 with a pair of 77s.
Runner-up Jessica had an 82 and a 78 for 160 while Kelly scored 85 and 78 for 163.
Lizi Sweetnam, pictured, from Leighton Buzxzard, a sophomore swtudent at Seminole State College, tied for fifth place with scores of 82 and 87 for 169.
After two rounds Jessica Shiele and Lizi were tied for second place.
Lizi will transfer in August from Seminole State to Arkansas Tech University for her final two years to complte a degree in Art and Design.
She has been offered a further full golf scholarship and will play at NCAA Division 2 for Arkansas Tech which is located in Russelville, the home town of former Major winner John Daly who has helped designed and devlop the golfing facilities in the locality.
+Redlands, the title-holders, qualify as winners at the Jimmie Austin GC for the final whch will be held at the LPGA International course at Daytona Beach, Florida next month.

Harriet just makes top 20 in Ivy League Championship

Harriet Owers-Bradley from Nottingham, a junior year student at Yale University, finished joint 19th in a field of 35 players at the Ivy League Women's Championship at the famous Baltusrol course, Springfield, New Jersey.
Harriet had rounds of 89, 77 and 83 for a total of 249 over the 6,101 yd par-72 course.
Yale team-mate Alyssa Roland was the individual winner with scores of 78, 76 and 73 for 227, a shot ahead of Pennsylvania's Isabel Han (79-74-75).
Pennsylvania (929) had a resounding win in the team event, finishing 22 strokes ahead of runners-up Yale with Harvard third on 954 in a field of seven teams.

Kirsty just outside top 20 in Mid-American Conference Championship

Former Welsh champion Kirsty O'Connor (Ball State) from Lancashire tied for 23rd place in a field of 45 players at the Mid American Conference Championship at Hawthorne Golf & Country club, Fishers, Indiana.
Kirsty had rounds of 76, 81 and 80 for a total of 237 over a 6,037yd, par-72 course.
Winner was Martina Vavier (Ken State) with scores of 72, 73 and 73 for 218 - six strokes ahead of runner-up Brittany Kelly (Ball State) with 76, 74 and 71.
Kent State (892) won the team title ahead of Ball State (911) in a field of nine teams.
