Linda Caine beats top seed Wendy Nicholson to become Midlothian
-
champion ... 19 years after only other appearance in county final

Nineteen years after she lost in her only previous appearance in the Midlothian women's county golf championship, Dunbar's Linda Caine has won the title - at the same course, Prestonfield!
A former Scotland girl international and a county team selector nowadays, Caine beat top seed Wendy Nicholson (Broomieknowe) by 4 and 3 in today's (Sunday's) final after being in the driving seat throughout.
She won the first, second, fifth and seventh to be four up, a dominating lead she held at the turn.
Nicholson scored her only success at the 11th to be three down on 12th tee but she went back to four down at that hole. And so Wendy's search for a first county title must go on. For Linda, she's made it at last.
Results:
Semi-finals - Wendy Nicholson (Broomieknowe) bt Karen Marshall (Baberton) 1 hole, Linda Caine (Dunbar) bt Louise Fraser (Kingsknowe) at 20th.
Final - Caine bt Nicholson 4 and 3.
