England’s Nicola Race wins second national US title

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
English student golfer Nicola Race has won her second national title on the US women’s college circuit.
Nicola, from Witham in Essex, successfully defended her title in the National Junior College Championship. The 20-year-old also led Redlands Community College, Oklahoma, to a repeat victory in the national team championship.
Nicola’s double victory came at the end of a weather-disrupted tournament as severe storms lashed Florida. The championship should have been played at the LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach but heavy rains meant it was unfit for play. Instead the event was moved to Providence Golf Club and, due to time constraints, reduced to an 18-hole winner-takes-all round.
Nicola made the most of her opportunity. She was four shots off the pace after nine holes but stormed home in 31 for a two-under par 70 and a four-stroke win.
Meanwhile, the team score of 297 put Redlands 15 strokes ahead of their closest challengers. Nicola will transfer to the University of Missouri in August. Before starting her college career she was in the English Women’s Golf Association Select South East Squad.
