NOREEN HANGS ON TO BE JOINT THIRD
WITH ONE ROUND TO GO IN
BRITISH SENIORS AT COPT HEATH

Noreen Fenton and Pat Hutton were sharing fourth place at the beginning of the second day of the British senior women's open amateur golf championship at Copt Heath Golf Club, Solihull.
At the end of it, Noreen, pictured right, from the Merchants of Edinburgh Club had hung on to a share of third place with a repeat 79 for 158.
But Pat went into freefall with 90 for 169 - and missed the cut which reduced the field to the 40 players who will play Friday's third and final round. Mrs Hutton had one triple bogey and three double bogeys and required 47 shots for the inward half.
In contrast, Noreen birdied the long second and returned tidy halves of 39 and 40 for her second 79 to be four shots behind the new leader, Canadian Alison Murdoch who won the Irish senior women's open title last week. Alison shot to the front with a second-round, one-over-par 74 for 154.
St Andrews hotelier Fiona De Vries was another Scot to survive the cut with a 78 (40-38) for a share of 11th place on 161. Fiona has not had a single birdie in 36 holes but her damage limitation has been first class.
Pamela Williamson (Baberton) starts the final day in joint 25th place on 163 after an 80 (39-41) which included a double bogey 7 at the long seventh for the second round in a row.
Helen Faulds (Douglas Park) had halves of 37 and 42 for a 79 and 164.
Maureen Richmond, who, as Maureen Walker was a Curtis Cup player in 1974, made the biggest improvement between rounds .... from a 92 to a 74, which was more like the player who won the Spanish senior women's open title earlier this year. Maureen had an eagle 2 at the sixth and birdies at two par-5s, the seventh and the 16th in halves of 35 and 39, compared with 49-43 on Wednesday.
Downfield's Heather Anderson survived the cut with nothing to spare on 167 after a second-round 87 which included a triple bogey 7 at the sixth and double bogey 6s at the 11th and 17th in halves of 42 and 45.
Former Scottish champion Fiona Anderson (Formby Ladies) missed the cut by one shot after a second-round 87 which included a nightmare run of 8-5-7 for the second, third and fourth holes which have a par of 5-3-4.
