GIANT-KILLER AILEEN CUT DOWN TO SIZE
IN QUARTER-FINALS AT GLENBERVIE


Top seed Kathleen Sutherland (Royal Montrose), the new Scottish senior women’s amateur stroke-play champion, fell at the first hurdle in the senior women’s match-play championship at Glenbervie Golf Club today.
Kathleen lost by one hole to the last of the 16 qualifiers for the match-play stages, Aileen Kennedy (Harburn).
But giant-killer Kennedy was herself cut down to size in the afternoon quarter-finals. She lost by 3 and 2 to Margaret Tough (Falkirk) who had knocked out a former champion, Pamela Williamson (Baberton) by 3 and 2 in the morning.
Sunday morning’s semi-finals will see Tough play Ruth Brown (Lothianburn) and Lorna Bennett (Ladybank) play May Hughes (Lanark).

First round – A Kennedy (Harburn) bt K Sutherland (Royal Montrose) 1 hole, M Tough (Falkirk) bt P Williamson (Baberton) 3 and 2, R Brown (Lothianburn) bt B Biggart (Kilmacolm) 3 and 2, A Telfer (Milngavie) bt H Faulds (Douglas Park) 2 and 1, L Bennett (Ladybank) bt J Mack (Haggs Castle) 4 and 3, N Fenton (Merchants of Edinburgh) bt E Campbell (Torwoodlee) 4 and 3, M Thomson (North Berwick) bt H Anderson (Downfield) 3 and 2, M Hughes (Lanark) bt F Hunter (Baberton) 4 and 2.
Quarter-finals – Tough bt Kennedy 3 and 2, Brown bt Telfer 5 and 3, Bennett bt Fenton 7 and 6, Hughes bt Thomson 1 hole.

SUNDAY MORNING SEMI-FINALS
Tough v Brown at 8am.
Bennett v Hughes at 8.10am.
FINAL AT 12.45.
