US FUTURES TOUR

VIKKI STILL STRUGGLING TO RECAPTURE FORM

Vikki Laing is still struggling to recapture the form that made her a top amateur. She had a first-round, seven-over-par 79, admittedly over a tough, 6,415yd course, in the Cigna Futures Classic at Gillette Ridge Golf Club, near Hartford, Connecticutt on Friday.
Only two players broke the par of 72 over the Arnold Palmer-designed course.
Vikki had halves of 41 and 38 to be in joint 80th place and needs to pull up her socks to make the 36-hole cut.
Brenda McLarnon, like Vikki a former US college player but not one that was ever as highly ranked as the Scot from Musselburgh, starts the second day sharing 56th place on 77. Brenda, from Belfast, had halves of 40 and 37.
Janet Dwyer from Aberyswyth, Wales, is in joint 99th place after an 81 (43-38).
Leading the field are Sooji Choi (34-36) from Los Angeles and Jordan Cherebetiu (35-35) from South Dakota.
