Craigmillar Park Golf Club raises £1000 for breast cancer research

George Hunter (Club Captain), Mary Richardson (Ladies Convenor), Niamh Crawford (Breast Cancer Now)

Craigmillar Park Golf Club yesterday (25th October) was delighted to present a cheque for £1000 to Breast Cancer Now. Last month we ran our Ladies Golf Union (LGU) Breast Cancer Now Brooch Medal. We turned the day into a ‘wear pink day’ involving all our members. Our men, women and juniors all turned out in their best pink outfits and our course flags even turned pink for the weekend.

Entry fees were donated, we ran a raffle for a golf bag and members donated generously on the day. The pink police’ AKA George Hunter (Club Captain) and Mary Richardson (Ladies Convenor) were out on the course on the day checking for ‘pinkness’ and fines for lack of pink attire were handed out.
Over 4,600 women and 28 men are diagnosed with breast cancer in Scotland each year. It is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women and around 1,000 people in Scotland die from the disease every year and has touched the lives of many of our golfers and their families.

We were delighted to raise £1000, consisting of money raised on the day and additional individual donations from two of our members to help fund cutting-edge research into the disease. In Scotland, Breast Cancer Now support 21 scientists, working on research projects in locations such as Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling.
