 Haggs Castle GC's three champions

The three Haggs Castle GC championship winners (left to right): Jennifer Rankine, Craig Morrison and Ronan Johnston.

REPORT BY NEALE STEWART
Haggs Castle GC held their Finals Day today in dry weather.

The Junior Championship Final pitted the Junior Captain, 17 year old Ronan Johnston, against 13 year old Andrew Forbes.
In the morning round Andrew played solid par golf for the first seven holes and was four up.  Ronan finally managed to get his game into gear at the eighth and had got back to square at the 12th.
Ronan was two up on the 18th tee but Andrew reduced the deficit with a solid par at the 18th.  Ronan set out in the afternoon with some quality iron play and was 2 inches from a hole in one at the 20th.  Ronan began to exert more pressure on Andrew and finally won by 5 and 4.

In the Ladies Final, a repeat of the 2015 final, young Jennifer Rankine was defending her title against 2014 Champion and current Carradale GC Ladies Champion, Laura McGeachy.  The game was very tight and all square after 9 holes with both players having made the turn in 38 shots.
Jennifer won the 10th after a concession by Laura.  The play was even over the next few holes and Jennifer was two up after a straightforward par at the 15th.  Jennifer had a birdie 3 at the 16th to retain the Championship by 3 and 2.

The Men's Final was contested by defending champion Craig Morrison and the 2011 champion, Stuart Roberts.  Craig came in to the final in excellent form, having won the Edzell GC Championship, after 34 years of trying, and also this years Glasgow Golf Union match-play championship.
This final was full of quality golf with Craig making the turn in 32 shots and being round in approximately 66.  The better-ball for the first 18 holes was 63 with Craig being fourup.  Craig continued his good scoring in the second round and again made the turn in 32 and with Stuart just not making the putts when it mattered Craig ran out the winner by 9 and 7.
