The Irish Ladies Golf Union Silver and Bronze National Medal finals took place at Headfort Golf Club over the new and old courses today (Monday). The sun shone all morning as competitors arrived with the hope of adding a national medal to their respective club one.

Water hazards and fast greens posed a challenge for those competing but it didn’t faze all, as many players carded low scores.

Jo Ebbs (Dun Laoghaire) is the winner of the 2016 Silver Medal after shooting a 72 nett and Anne Mullan (Castledargan) captured the Bronze Medal with a score of 73 nett.

Curtis Cup debutante Rochelle Morris 

in field for St Rule Trophy

Last year's winner of the St Rule Trophy 54-hole women's open tournament at St Andrews, 17-year-old Indian Aditi Ashok, has turned professional since her victory by five strokes.
Bristol's Bethan Popel, who was runner-up 12 months ago, is in the international field again.
So too is Carnoustie Ladies' Jess Meek who won a title play-off against Annelle Carnet (France) in this tournament two years ago.
A past winner of the Scottish U21 girls title, Jess is a student at Missouri University.
It will be interesting to see Rochelle Morris (Woodsome Hall), pictured above, in action. She will be making her GB and I debut in the 39th Curtis Cup match against the Americans at Dun Laoghaire GC, near Dublin, from June 10 to 12.
The St Rule Trophy tournament has gone from strength to strength since it was introduced in 1984. This will be its 33rd staging.
Arguably its most famous winner was Sweden's Annika Sorenstam in 1990. That was one of her last appearances as an amateur. She went on to become one of the most successful professionals on the United States' LPGA Tour before retiring prematurely to get married and start a family.
The first two rounds are over the New Course at St Andrews on Saturday. The third and final round is over the Old Course on Sunday. There is no cut.

Duke  University surge to second-place tie in Oregon: next up cut to top 8 for match-play

NEWS RELEASE
EUGENE, Oregon – Catapulted by a record-setting 54-output by Duke University freshman Virginia Elena Carta, the Blue Devil women’s golf team jumped into a tie for second place at the NCAA Championship on its way to advancing to Monday’s final round of stroke play 6,331-yard, par 72 Eugene Country Club in Oregon.

Carta, who hails from Udine, Italy, shattered the NCAA 54-hole record with rounds of 69, 68 and 66 for an incredible 13-under-par ledger of 203.  The previous mark was nine-under-par 207, set by Grace Park of Arizona State (1998), Jennifer Rosales of Southern California (1998), Virada Nirapathpongporn of Duke (2002) and Annie Park of Southern California (2013).

As a team, Duke shot a team-best eight-under-par, 280, for the third round to move into a tie for second along with UCLA at 862.  Southern California holds a two-stroke lead over the Bruins and Blue Devils.  Duke’s round of 280 was the lowest since the Blue Devils carded a 278 and 274 in the third and fourth rounds in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to win their sixth NCAA Championship.

The Blue Devils have made a very impressive run up the leaderboard, after starting the first round tied 21st overall.  Duke moved up 12 spots in Saturday’s second round to tied ninth and then up seven spots to tied second after three days.

For the second consecutive round, Duke featured three golfers in red numbers as Leona Maguire and Sandy Choi each finished with one-under 71s. Sophomore Gurbani Singh collected her best round of the spring season with an even-par, 72.
