Sixty six players took to the course on day two of the Irish
Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship at the Island Golf
Club.

Overnight leader by six shots,
Mehaffey, teed off in the
latter half of the draw with
playing partners Inci Mehmet
(England) and Fiona Liddell
(Germany).
Mehaffey continued her usual
form after opening with a
birdie and following with
another on the third.
A string of nine pars in a row was put to a halt with a bogey on 13 and a double on 16 but a last minute birdie save meant she signed for a final score of 75 (+1). Mehaffey continues to hold the leading position on a total of 144 (-4).
Welsh player Chloe Williams,  pictured, managed to narrow Olivia’s lead to one shot after carding a fantastic second round score of 70 (-4). William’s fellow playing partner Chloe Ryan (Castletroy) carded a lightning round of 72 (-2) to move her into joint third position with Jessica Ross (Donaghadee) who carded a second round 73 (-1).
Scottish player Gabrielle MacDonald really shone through on the front nine as she carded an impressive 33 shots (-4). MacDonald begun birdie, eagle, eagle, par, birdie; a run of holes not to be forgotten. She finished the round off on a low note but still recorded a steady 75 (+1).
Irish International and recent Munster Senior Champion Valerie Clancy took the 36 hole clubhouse lead for a short while after shooting a superb 72 (-2). Other low Irish scores came from the Lurgan duo of Niamh McSherry and Annabel Wilson with scores of 72 and 74 respectively.
Ireland team A of Olivia Mehaffey, Chloe Ryan and Maria Dunne won the Nations Cup and were twelve shots clear of nearest competitors, Ireland team B.

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men's Golf team came into the week looking to stay unbeaten during the spring season, garnering two big tournament wins thus far.
This week, the Patriots travelled to Campbellsville, Kentucky to compete in the 2016 Mid-South Conference (MSC) Spring Invite at Campbellsville Country Club.
UC showed their team's depth and poise again as they won their 3rd straight tournament of the season and this particular tournament for the 2nd year in a row.
The Patriots shot an opening round score of 291, but had only a three shot lead heading into the final round over rival Lindsey Wilson College.
During a very tough 2nd round where UC's lead went up and down, they never found themselves out of the top spot on the leaderboard.  The Patriots fired a 2nd round score of 306 for a two-day total of 597, finally coming away with a four shot win over the Blue Raiders.
Callum McGuigan from Crieff finished tied 14th with scores of 73-79 for 152.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Leading the way for UC was senior Florian Loutre (Le Mans, France) as he shot a two-round total of 145 (+1) to earn runner-up and All-Tournament Team honoUrs.
  • Ben Kendrick (Danville, KY) and individual Michael Murphy (Shepherdsville, KY) would both finish T-6th with two-day scores of 149 (+5).
  • Anton Mostrom (Orebro, Sweden) earned a top 10 finish placing T-9th overall after firing a tournament total of 151 (+7).
  • Callum McGuigan (Crieff, Scotland) would come away with a T-14th place finish after a two-round score of 152 (+8).
  • Individual David Krueger (Grayslake, IL) earned a T-23rd finish with a two-day total of 156 (+12).
  • Rounding out UC's competitors was Martin Jacobsson (Stenkullen, Sweden) as he finished T-37th with an overall score of 164 (+20).
Head Coach Chris Kraftick commented, "The guys really gutted this one out.  I'm proud of the fight and effort they showed.  This is a sneaky tough course and winning here is never easy."
UP NEXT
The Patriots have a short turnaround as they will now travel to Indianapolis, Indiana on April 11th-12th to compete in the NAIA Classic at Brickyard Crossing.
