Charlotte Thomas wins  big event on Hawaii and Bronte Law helps UCLA to team title

Bronte Law (first left) and the winning UCLA team in the Hawaii college tournament.

FROM THE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY AND UCLA WEBSITES
With a few extra words by Colin Farquharson
KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii – University of Washington final year student from Singapore via Surrey,Charlotte Thomas, entered the final round of the Pac-12 Preview at Nanea Golf Club sitting atop the leaderboard and that’s where she stayed, finishing with a three-round total  of 7-under 212 to earn her first title of the 2015-16 US college golf season and her third-career tourna-ment win as a Husky.

Thomas, pictured, commanded the lead through all three rounds in the stacked field, opening up the event with a 3-under 70. She improved upon that score during the second 18 holes of the day on Monday with her season-low round of 4-under 69.
It was the first time during the autumn season that Thomas posted back-to-back sub-par rounds. The senior closed out the tournament Tuesday with an even par 73 for her first tournament win since the 2013-14 season.
“I’m so happy for Charlotte and her win today,” said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. “Her fall season didn’t go exactly how she wanted it to so it was great seeing her play her game out there this week
"Even when she shot a double bogey on her third hole today, she was able to get back and finish at even par. It’s a great confidence builder for her and will give her momentum to build upon when we start back up after the mid-winter break."
Thomas closed out the autumn campaign with four top 20 finishes and three top 10 efforts.
Thomas's compatriot, Bronte Law from Cheshire bounced back from an 82 in the second-round, her worst ever US college score, to shoot a five-under 68 in the final round, having started the three-round event with a 69. Bronte was bogey-free in both her sub-70 rounds.
Law'a 68 included birdies at the second, fifth, ninth, 11th and 13th. The Pac-12 Golfer of October has had six under-par rounds in her last seven.
English champion Law finished on level par despite that "awful" second round and helped UCLA (California-Los Angeles) to win the team title by seven strokes from Arizona State.
Five of the six UCLA players finished in the top 15 with Bront Law filling fourth place..
By the time Washington and UCLA resume action in February, there will only be something like four months to go to the Curtis Cup match at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club near Dublin in June 2016.
Thomas and Law played for GB and I in the Astor Trophy tournament in Australia in Januiary of this year and again in the Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe at Malone GC, Belfast where GB and I came closer to beating the trophy holders than they have done for several years.

Partridge and Brown win England’s top senior spots for 2015
Internationals Richard Partridge and Julie Brown have capped winning seasons by being named as England Golf’s top seniors for 2015.
Partridge, the Irish and Scottish senior champion, and Brown, the British senior women’s champion, have each won their respective orders of merit.
Brown, from Trentham in Staffordshire, scored a runaway win, amassing more than twice as many order of merit points as her closest rival, English senior amateur champion Helen Lowe.
“I really wanted to win this, I was close last year and was pipped, so I’m very pleased,” she remarked.
The highlight of her season was realising a long-held ambition to hold a British title. “That was really special,” said Brown. “I always wanted to win a British title and I lost in the final of the British amateur in 1984 at Troon. So this did mean a lot to me – even though I had to wait a long time for it.”
She added: “I also really enjoyed playing in the England team this year - I don’t think I have ever laughed so much, we had so much fun as a team.” They also had much success, taking the silver medal at the European championships and winning the Senior Women’s Home Internationals.”
In addition Brown was runner-up in the English senior amateur, which she won in 2014, and tied fifth in the English senior stroke play.
She has just completed her second year as a senior and her target is to keep on winning. “My goal is to do the same again next year, if I can, if it’s possible. I definitely want to win another title.”
Richard Partridge, from Wildernesse in Kent, described his order of merit win as: “The pinnacle of a superb and very satisfying personal season.
“To beat one’s fellow competitors and to be constantly to the fore throughout the season against some impressive foe is extremely gratifying and something of which I am very proud and I will be hoping to continue next season.”
It was, he said, “a great and unexpected thrill” to win the Irish title and then to follow it up by winning the Scottish.  He was also runner-up in the Welsh championship, although he says that was the one which got away, having held a four-shot lead with eight holes to play.
Partridge returned to the England senior team after an absence of a year and described his selection for the European championship and the Senior Home Internationals as “both a great honour and experience.”
Looking ahead, his priorities include trying to retain his titles and giving himself a chance of England team selection. He’d also like to regain the Kent senior title. “Consistent performance is the key to success and I will be doing my utmost to try and continue where this season has ended,” said Partridge.
