Scottish Under-21 girls' open amateur stroke-play championship

Cloe from Kent clear by five at Drumpellier

Chart Hills junior member Cloe Frankish made the trip up from Kent to Drumpellier Golf Club near Glasgow well worthwhile when she opened up a five-stroke lead at the end of the first round of the Scottish Under-21 girls' open stroke play championship today.

Only 16, Cloe, pictured left by courtesy of Leaderboard Photography(c),  was following up her second place finish in the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters and tied ninth in the English women’s amateur championship. She just missed out on a place in the GB and I team for the recent Junior Vagliano Trophy match in Belfast.
All that class showed in a round which had birdies at the first, second, 15th, 16th and 18th in halves of 36 and 33 for a four-under-par 69. She did have one slip, a bogey at the 14th.
Sharing second place, five shots behind on the 74 mark, are Louise Duncan (West Kilbride), Tara Mactaggart (Minro), Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie Ladies) and Germany's Greta Voelker (Ger).

St Andrews student Summers, a former winner of the St Rule Trophy, birdied three of the first four holes and added two more at the tenth and 17th. But she also had four bogeys and a double-bogey at the 13th.

European championship first round in Austria

Scottish champion Clara Young (North Berwick), pictured below,  and Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) are just outside the top 20 at the end of the first day of the European women's individual amateur golf championship at Murhof Golf Club, Austria.
They both shot one-under-par 71s to be five shots behind the leader, Junior Vagliano Trophy team player Agathe Laisne, a 16-year-old from the Racing Club de France.
Laisne had an eagle 2 at the par-4 fifth and an eagle 3 at par-5 seventh.
She leads by one from Ana Belac (Slovenia) and Aditi Ashok (Bangalore), the Indian girl who won the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews this year.

Megan goes low to head US girls qualifiers

NEWS RELEASE FROM USGA
TULSA, Oklahoma. – Megan Khang, who is competing in her record-tying seventh U.S. Girls’ Junior, added her name to the USGA record books again, carding a two-day, 8-under 132 in stroke-play qualifying to earn medalist honours at the 2015 championship at Tulsa Country Club.

Khang’s 132 ties for the third-lowest 36-hole score in U.S. Girls’ Championship history. Taylore Karle shot a 130 in 2005 at BanBury Golf Club in Eagle, Idaho, and Khang’s fellow 2015 Girls’ competitor Angel Yin carded a 131 at the 2014 championship at Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Khang, 17, of Rockland, Massachusetts., who also earned low-amateur honours at the U.S. Women’s Open earlier this month, followed Monday’s 67 with a bogey-free, 5-under 65 on Tuesday, her personal-best 18-hole score.

“It was definitely a great feeling because [my mom] is always bugging me about having a bogey-free round, and I’ve done it in practice, but never in a championship,” said a smiling Khang after carding three consecutive birdies on holes 15 through 17.
“I wanted one more birdie on 18, but I was happy to take par and walk away because I knew that would be a bogey-free round.”
