JESSICA BRADLEY'S SIXTH WIN IN STATE

St. Augustine, Florida – Records fell at the World Golf Invitational on Monday afternoon as Lynn University's women's golf team and Jessica Bradley from North Devon claimed top honours for the second consecutive year.
The Fighting Knights bested the tournament mark by seven shots with a 584 total while Bradley shot the lowest round in tournament history with a final round 68 on the 6,011-yard, par 72 Slammer and Squire course.
Sitting in 12th place at the start of the day, Bradley tied the program record, and her career-low, with a 68 to notch her 18th consecutive top-10 finish.
The Bishop Nympton, England, native needs three more consecutive top-10 finishes to break the NCAA Division II record.  She now has six career tournament victories in the States after passing first-round leader Stephanie Tucker.
Samantha Smolen had the misfortune of shooting another stellar par round, only to finish second individually to teammate Bradley.  Smolen collected her 26th career top-10 finish in the process with the 144 total.
Lynn shot a four-under par 284 on the final day to leap Saint Leo and pull away from the 17 team field.  Host Flagler made the move into second place with a 595, followed by Barry (602), Florida Tech (604) and previous leader Saint Leo (605).  This is the Fighting Knights' second victory of the 2014-15 season.

WOMEN'S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
England Golf has named two teams for the Nations Cup event at this month's Spanish ladies’ amateur championship at Real Club Pineda in Seville.
India Clyburn of Lincolnshire, Alice Hewson of Hertfordshire and Inci Mehmet of Surrey will combine in one team; while Gemma Clews of Cheshire, Sammie Giles of Cornwall and Bethan Popel of Gloucestershire make up the other.
The championship takes place from February 25 to March 1 and after two rounds of stroke play qualifying the leading 32 players will go forward to the match play. The Nations Cup will be played on the qualifying days when each team’s best two scores will count in both rounds.
The players:
Gemma Clews (Delamere Forest, Cheshire), 20, was in England’s winning team at the ladies’ Home Internationals and won two scratch events last season: the Pleasington Putter and the inaugural Delamere Comboy Trophy. She was third in the Welsh open stroke play, sixth in the English amateur and 12th in the British stroke play.
India Clyburn (Woodhall Spa), 18, won the 2014 England Golf Girls’ Order of Merit, sponsored by Ascot Golf, in her last season as a junior. Her individual successes included winning the English girls’ championship, the Scottish junior open, the girls’ title at the Daily Telegraph junior championship and the Royal Birkdale scratch trophy. She was in England’s winning teams at the girls’ and ladies’ Home Internationals – winning all six of her matches at the girls’ event.
Sammie Giles (St Mellion), 20, is the English women’s mid-amateur champion and the winner of the 2014 Liphook Scratch Cup. Last season she enjoyed consistently good form and had a top ten finish at the St Rule Trophy and was in the top 15 at the Helen Holm, the English amateur and the British stroke play.
Alice Hewson (Berkhamsted), 17, was a member of England’s winning team at the girls’ and ladies’ Home Internationals. She won the Critchley Salver at Sunningdale and the U18 prize at the St Rule Trophy where she also helped England win the Nations Cup and was fourth overall. George Macgregor OBE, Captain of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, said,

“It is an honour and a privilege for The Royal and Ancient Golf Club to welcome these remarkable women as honorary members. The Princess Royal enjoys a strong bond with Scotland and has shown great energy and commitment to developing sport through her work in the Olympic movement.
“This is an historic day for the Club and we could not be more proud also to welcome women who have distinguished themselves in golf over many years and have been great players and champions. They are extremely worthy additions to our roll of honorary members and will become ambassadors for the Club as they have been for the sport of golf throughout their careers.”
The Princess Royal follows Their Royal Highnesses The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York and The Duke of Kent in becoming an honorary member of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club.
Having herself competed in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, The Princess Royal is a member of the International Olympic Committee and was a member of the London Organising Committee for the 2012 Olympic Games. The Princess Royal is a Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle in Scotland and has been Patron of the Scottish Rugby Union since 1986.
In September, The Royal and Ancient Golf Club’s members voted by an 85% majority to admit women as members for the first time in its 260-year history. Today’s announcement follows that historic ballot and, in addition to the honorary members, a number of women have been admitted as members of the Club with more set to follow in the coming months.
Dame Laura Davies, is widely regarded as Britain’s greatest female golfer having won four Major Championships and 79 events around the world. She won the Women’s British Open at Royal Birkdale in 1986 and the US Women’s Open in 1987. She played in every Solheim Cup match from 1990 to 2011 and is the leading all-time points scorer. A former world number one, Laura Davies was the first non-American to finish at the top of the LPGA money list and also won the LET Order of Merit a record seven times. Renée Powell played in more than 250 events, having joined the LPGA Tour in 1967. In 1979, she became the first woman to be a head professional at a golf course in the United Kingdom, at Silvermere, near London. After leaving the LPGA Tour in 1980, she developed inner-city youth golf programmes in the United States and in 1995 became the first African-American female Class A member of The PGA of America and the LPGA. In 2003, Renée Powell received the Professional Golfers' Association of America’s First Lady of Golf award and four years later the inaugural Rolex For the Love of the Game Award. In 2008 she was made an honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) by the University of St Andrews.
The great Scottish amateur golfer Belle Robertson (pictured above) won the British Ladies Amateur Championship in 1981 and the Scottish Ladies Close Amateur Championship on seven occasions. She represented Great Britain and Ireland in seven Curtis Cups and was part of the first team to win the match on American soil in 1986.  She captained the team twice. Belle Robertson was voted Scottish Sportswoman of the Year on four occasions and Woman Golfer of the year three times. In 1973, she was appointed MBE for services to golf and was named as one of the 50 inaugural members of the Scottish Sport Hall of Fame in 2002.
Lally Segard (née Vagliano) is one of France’s greatest golfers, winning the British Girls’ Championship in 1937 and, as Vicomtesse de Saint-Sauveur, 14 international titles including the British Ladies’ Amateur in 1950. As President of the Women’s Committee of the World Amateur Golf Council (now the International Golf Federation) she helped found the Espirito Santo Trophy, the women’s World Amateur Team Championship. She was France’s non-playing captain from the inaugural event in 1964 until 1972. Lally Segard is an Officer of France’s National Order of Merit and a Commander of the Order of Sporting Merit.
One of the most successful golfers in history, Annika Sorenstam is a former world number one who won 89 events around the world, including ten Major Championships. She won the Rolex Player of the Year award on eight occasions and represented Europe in the Solheim Cup eight times between 1994 and 2007, before serving as vice-captain for the victorious European side in 2011 and 2013. Annika Sorenstam was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2003 and retired from competitive golf in 2008 to focus on establishing the Annika Academy and the Annika Foundation, which support aspiring junior golfers.
Louise Suggs, a co-founder and former President of the LPGA, won the US Women’s Amateur in 1947 and the British Ladies’ Amateur in 1948, before turning professional and winning 58 events, including 11 Major Championships. She was an inaugural inductee into the LPGA Hall of Fame, established in 1967, and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. The Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year Award, given each year to the most accomplished first-year player on the LPGA Tour, is named in her honour. In 2007, she received the Bob Jones Award, given by the USGA in recognition of great sportsmanship in golf.

EL PASO, Texas – It was much of the same for the Western New Mexico University men's golf team as they continued to lead the field and claim the Edward Jones' Cactus Thaw title by nine strokes Monday.
"This is the start to the semester we wanted. We have worked hard over the break and knew we were playing some good golf coming into the Thaw," Head Coach Kent Beatty said. "I am very proud of the boys and the finishes by our individuals shows the depth we have moving forward through the season."
The Mustangs were even Monday with a 284, the second best round of the day to post a 561 aggregate after a seven-under 277 on Sunday for a 561. New Mexico State's B Team landed in second with a 570. Midland CC (574), UTEP B Team (589), NMMI (604) and Fort Lewis (614) rounded out the six-team field.
NMSU's Luis Medina claimed the individual title with a 136, just two shots ahead of WNMU's Harry Wetton (Bedford, England/The Bedford School).
Wetton finished in second to lead the way for the Mustangs. He shot an even round 71, coupled with an opening round 67 to post a 138. Wetton posted three birdies, two on the back-nine.

Calum Hill (Kinross, Scotland/Kinross HS), pictured on right, was right behind with a 139 to tie for third. Hill was even after the first day with a 71 and then fired three-under 68 Monday to move up the leader board. Hill ripped off five birdies, with three on the back-nine.
Playing as an individual, Ross White (Dollar, Scotland/Kinross HS) soared on the second day, as he opened with a two-over 73, just to watch the red numbers fly on day two with a five-under 66 to end with a 139 and to tie Hill for third. White, who recorded the only birdie on the team Sunday, followed that up by birding the par-five ninth hole today. He then accelerated on the back-nine with five birdies to reach the clubhouse with a four-under on the back-nine.
Ben Skinner (Hertfordshire, England/Lorretto Academy) and Deryk "Buzz" Perales tied for seventh with 142's. Skinner was three-under entering the day then fired a three-over 74 to end with a 142. He had three birdies, all on the back-nine. Perales wasn't going to let White be the only one to be eagle watching as he added his own two-under on the same ninth hole. He finished even on Monday, after going even on Sunday to end with his 142.
Daniel Young (Cheshire, England/Eaton Bank HS), playing as an individual, tied for 15th with a 148. Young was three-over each day to tally his 148. He had three birdies, two coming on the front-nine. Rounding out the golfers for WNMU, Thomas Neve (Epsom, England/Cams Hill School/Merrist College) tied for 18th with a 149. He was four-over on Sunday and then added a three-over today to card a 149. He had four birdies, with three coming on the front-nine.
With one title already under their belts, WNMU will return to action on Feb. 22-23 when the JV Mustangs will play in the Bronco Invite in Roswell
